Hello! My name is Caleb Suh, and I am a fourth-year student at The Ohio State University studying finance with a minor in psychology. While I am originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Ohio State has been a part of my life since I can remember. With family in Columbus and an alum for a parent, I have been chanting O-H-I-O at the Ohio Stadium since I was 10 years old. Growing up, my family’s game day tradition consisted of waiting in line at Buckeye Donuts for breakfast followed by walking around the tailgates and stopping by Skull Session before heading to the Shoe to watch the Buckeyes take on their opponent. With all this history, it was only right that I choose to come to this university to continue my education. I am extremely thankful and excited to be serving on the 2022 Homecoming Court and I see it as an opportunity to give back to the university that has given me so much.

On campus, I am a member of the professional business fraternity Pi Sigma Epsilon which aims to help its brothers enhance their marketing and sales management skills through projects, volunteering at events, and networking opportunities. It is the organization that has helped me find some of my lifelong friends and has been one of the highlights of my college career. I also have the chance to serve as the co-captain of the Fisher Ambassador program. This position has allowed me to give back to my college by leading the recruitment efforts of Fisher’s future students alongside 25 other ambassadors. I am also a member of the 25th Honors Cohort. This is Fisher’s flagship leadership program and is a two-year MBA-like experience that aims to develop its members through experiential learning, cultural immersion and community service. Some of my other involvements include the Buckeye Undergraduate Consulting Club (BUCC) as well as the Club Tennis team.

While my college courses have laid the foundation for me to be successful in the business world, I take great pride in having an interest and minor in psychology. These courses piqued my curiosity and taught me how to understand the innerworkings of a successful team and how to best motivate a group of diverse people. It is through these classes that I learned about the importance of early childhood literacy, the foundation on which lifelong learning is built upon. Studies have shown that the types of books that children read as well as the age they start reading increase empathy at an earlier age. In my behavioral neuroscience course, we learned about how the brain develops neurological pathways and reading and learning can help develop these pathways at a faster rate.

Covid affected everyone, but the education system took the biggest hit. Online learning affected the crucial early years of children’s education and because of this, I have chosen to raise money in support of the Early Literacy Initiative. This cause uses the Literacy Collaborative Framework that has workshops dedicated to different levels of learning. By helping kids develop their reading skills no matter the stage of life they are in, it truly has a place for everyone. College has shown me the importance of reading and reading comprehension, and I think that this cause supports the future students and Buckeyes of tomorrow. Thank you so much for supporting this initiative and for helping develop the students of the future!
