I am happy to report that our undergraduates have written extraordinary lesson plans for the full-immersion language lessons. Lots of fun material! After the break we will confront the tricky concept of culture – I am really looking forward to those discussions and the creation of the lessons. Kendra, our Graduate Leader is also finalizing her afternoon program, which is shaping up to be educational but, again, lots of fun. The kids will certainly be engaged and will leave this camp with a meaningful global intercultural experience.
I am having so much fun guiding our young people as they learn to teach in a world language. This is a great experience for them and Kendra and I are working very closely with them to make sure that they feel comfortable 'being on the other side of the desk’ for the first time and doing it all in a language other than their native language.
The satisfactions grow every week!
I (Janice Aski) am very excited to report that we have nearly 40 middle-school students signed up for the camp! Only twenty spots left, so spread the word to all friends and family with middle school kids. Of these applications, 13 students have applied for scholarship support.
The seminar in which I teach our Undergraduate Students about full immersion language teaching and presenting culture is 1/3 complete. We are working on how to present vocabulary and how to structure lessons so that learners have time to process the new information in the target language before they start using the target language! Yes, there is method to the madness.
Finally, Kendra, the Graduate Assistant, and I are working this week to finalize the schedule for the afternoon sessions. Kendra has lots of exciting ideas for activities, so I am looking forward to putting it all together.
Please continue sharing this funder with friends, family and colleagues!
Thank you for your generous contribution to the Global Citizen Summer Camp! Your donation will help give students the opportunity to experience cultures and learn languages that they might not otherwise have access to. You are truly helping to develop global citizens.
Thanks to the generosity of so many people, after the first week we are already 40% of the way towards our goal! There are still three weeks left to reach our goal of $5500. If you could, please continue to share this project with friends, family, and across social media. Anything helps!
Thank you!
