Make a donation of $25 or more to honor Madison and to continue to help find a miracle for those like her with Spinal Muscular Atrophy or SMA. Madison Rose Reed was born on February 4th,1997. She came into this world pink, rosy, kicking and screaming! Madison was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, the most severe & life threatening form of this genetic disease at 8 months old. Based on this diagnosis she was not expected to live past 2 years old. This year Madison turns a miraculous 25 years old! SMA affects the motor neurons in the spine that control all voluntary movement like swallowing, breathing, head and neck control, sitting, standing and walking. Madison was never able to roll over or sit up and lost her swallow starting around 6 months old. She has gotten progressively weaker over the last 25 years but continues to wake up every day with a positive attitude and smile on her face. There is no cure for SMA, but there is hope. There are currently 3 FDA approved drug treatments and if started early enough, before or shortly after diagnosis, the progression of SMA can be stopped. Miracles are happening every day for newly diagnosed infants. Many of these children treated early with these drugs show no signs of SMA and are reaching every physical milestone including walking. This was unheard of until a few years ago. The Ohio State University SMA research lab headed by Dr. Arthur Burghes has lead the way in this groundbreaking research. The Miracle For Madison & Friends fund has helped with funding Zolgensma gene therapy which was researched & developed in The Ohio State University & Nationwide Children's Hospital SMA research labs. FDA has approved gene therapy only up to age 2, so Madison will never have the opportunity to receive this life saving treatment. She has been able to try the other 2 drug treatments but has not experienced any significant improvement or gains. This is where your gift today is needed the most to help find a treatment for the older children & adults. The researchers in the Burghes lab are working continuously to help find a treatment/cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Thank you for your support!

Na'Asiasha "Ny" Simon: Turning my survival into someone else's hope was raised in support of my mission to advance neurosurgery education and research at The Ohio State University. November 5, 2026 marks one year since my fourth brain surgery. For me, this milestone represents more than another year of healing. It represents another year of life, purpose, gratitude, and the opportunity to turn my personal journey into something that can help others. After undergoing four brain surgeries and experiencing firsthand the complexity of neurological care, I know how important research, innovation, and the next generation of medical professionals are to patients and families navigating neurological conditions. That is why I am establishing Na'Asiaha "Ny" Simon Neurosurgery Education and Research Award Fund at The Ohio State University. My fundraising goal is to support students pursuing neurological research and help advance groundbreaking work that has the potential to improve the lives of individuals and families facing neurological conditions for generations to come. This fund is bigger than my story. It is about turning survival into service. It is about investing in students who are asking the next questions, conducting the next studies, and working toward the discoveries that could change someone's life. On November 5, I don't simply celebrate being one year post-op. I celebrate what is possible because I'm still here. I invite my family, friends, colleagues, community, and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey to help me turn this milestone into a movement. She is the kindest and most caring of friends, and most of all, an AMAZING mother and wife. Her legacy will carry on through her children who have so much of her in them, without question raised to be wonderful human beings like their MOM! If you know D'Layne Graney you know living a life of, "What if" was definitely not her style. She made sure of this by packing everything she could into every minute of every day, with those she cared for. We would all do well to do the same, to live life to the fullest, spend on experiences not material goods, enjoy family trips and adventures, wine and dine with best friends and make every moment matter. That said, during the four year battle with High Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer she often considered one thing; How might things have turned out different if the cancer was detected sooner? After a few months of abdominal discomfort in 2022 she had testing done to see if perhaps it was IBS or other digestive track issues. The core problem was not discovered and a couple short months later she was diagnosed. As is often the case, the disease had spread rapidly. Early detection may not be a cure but it certainly increases life expectancy which in turn offers time to find other treatment solutions and a potential cure. She was a supporter of trials and personally participated, hoping her results would help others. After spending her last four years undergoing constant treatments, her body could not handle anymore. BUT what if we knew of her disease sooner or if more data was available to help extend her time? This fund is specifically focused on the cancer that affected D'Layne. The study is currently working to identify potential candidate proteins within extracellular vesicles that can be used for early detection of ovarian cancer and serve as therapeutic targets for the development of effective treatments. Additionally, they investigate the correlation between extracellular vesicle protein profiles and clinical outcomes to identify potential prognostic markers. We can make a difference. The next year, we turned it into a charity event to support a friend in need. Over time, we named it “Friends helping Friends” because that is exactly what friends do when someone needs help. We began by raising funds to support ALD (Adrenoleukodystrophy), diabetes, and cancer research. Since then, many family members, friends, and colleagues have faced serious illnesses, and sadly, we have lost several far too soon. With the support of so many generous people, we have raised and donated more than $283,000. Most of us know someone who is fighting a disease or has been directly affected by one. It will take all of us working together to win these battles, and we could not have made this impact without the support of our family, friends, and colleagues. There are so many worthy causes, and we are grateful for everyone who gives their time, energy, and resources to make a difference. Medical progress is possible because of that generosity. Jodi and I will continue doing our part until cures are found and more people can live healthier, better lives. I am Eddie Kline, Head Golf Professional at The Lakes Golf & Country Club, and my family has long been active within the Worthington Hills community. What began as a 100-golfer outing has grown into a thriving annual event, made possible by the incredible support of both the Worthington Hills and The Lakes Golf & Country Club communities. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed over the years—whether by donating auction items, purchasing sponsorship signage, or supporting event meals. Our silent auctions have proudly featured contributions from well-known athletes such as Clark Kellogg, Anthony Schlegel, Archie Griffin, Scoonie Penn, Jake Ballard, Michael Doss, Nate Ebner, and Branden Joe. I would also like to extend a special thank you to my fellow golf professionals and sales representatives for their continued generosity in support of this meaningful cause. In 2011, my wife, Katie, was diagnosed with stage III ovarian cancer. In response, the mission and impact of the Invitational grew even stronger. Through their remarkable matching program, every dollar raised by the Invitational was matched and directed toward cancer research initiatives at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James). Our experience with Give 18 inspired Katie and me to take the next step by establishing an endowed fund at the OSUCCC – James—The Kline Family Fund for Ovarian Cancer Research. From 2011 through 2025, The Hills at the Lakes Eddie Kline Invitational has raised over $1,000,000 in support of both Give 18 Fore Cancer Research (including matching contributions) and The Kline Family Fund. Katie passed away on December 10, 2025, following a courageous 14-year battle. She made a profound impact on countless lives through her advocacy, raising awareness and educating women about the importance of early detection of a disease she often referred to as “the silent killer.” Through our personal journey, and with the continued support of our friends, family, and community, we remain committed to advancing cancer research. Support our annual breast cancer fundraising event benefiting the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. Paula Brose 2026 marks the 19th year for my Life's Short, Eat Dessert fundraiser. However, this year is going to be different. There will not be an in-person October Life’s Short, Eat Dessert First event this year. Unfortunately, my sister’s breast cancer progressed again in 2026. I determined my focus this year needed to be on being with Jackie and helping her and her daughter. Sadly, Jackie passed away on August 29 and I will forever be grateful to have been able to spend so much time with her. In 2007, I received my first breast cancer diagnosis. Then in late 2024, the unexpected happened when I received a second breast cancer diagnosis. Hosting this event each year has always been my way of giving back. I’m still committed more than ever to raise funds to fight this disease. Even though there is not an in-person event this year, I can raise money online, like I did in 2020 during Covid. OSUCCC-James NextGen Society The 9th Columbus Mac & Cheese Festival will take place Friday September 25, 2026 to benefit the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) cancer program at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James). This year, with your support, we hope to raise over $100,000! Community support for the AYA cancer program is crucial. Cancer remains the leading cause of death from disease for women ages 15 to 39 and the second-leading cause for young men, according to the American Cancer Society. Santino's Crusade for a Cancer-Free World 2026

raised from gifts Santino Carnevale has found himself within the cancer world the entirety of his life. In March 2006, just 10 days after Santino’s parents, Michael and Brooke Carnevale, discovered they were expecting a child, his father was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma — a rare head and neck cancer. In 2015, at only 9 years old, Santino made the decision to stand up and do something in the fight against cancer. At such a young age, he already possessed a desire to help others going through similar battles. Santino began by organizing a lemonade stand and bake sale. Santino intended to honor his father, as well as his grandfather, the late Franklin County Sheriff Jim Karnes, who passed away when Santino was 4 years old from pancreatic cancer. The first year of the lemonade stand, Santino’s efforts raised an astounding $5,000 and he has never looked back. Santino formed his initiative known as “Santino’s Crusade for a Cancer-Free World”. In addition to the annual lemonade stand and bake sale, Santino hosts an Ohio State Tailgate party in downtown West Jefferson, OH. His family, friends and classmates have joined him in his efforts. Santino is widely known throughout The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) as one of the youngest adolescents to establish a fund and is often referred to as “Santino, the Cancer Crusader". Santino created the Head and Neck Cancer Strategic Support Fund at the OSUCCC – James in his beloved father’s honor in 2015. Unfortunately, Michael succumbed to his long battle with cancer in the fall of 2016, but that hasn’t slowed Santino’s efforts in the least. In addition, Santino was the recipient of the 2018 Jefferson Award, to recognize individuals who do extraordinary things in their community without expecting anything in return. To date, Santino is the youngest person in history to receive the prestigious Jefferson Award. She served at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and as Head Team Physician of OSU Athletics and now is the head team physician at the University of Oregon. This June, Dr. Doe faced a challenge none of us ever want to hear: a diagnosis of breast cancer. But if you know Dr. Doe, you know that she is strong, determined, and resilient. She has spent her career helping others push through adversity, and now it’s our turn to stand behind her. We celebrate her strength, her dedication, and the impact she’s made on so many lives. Support lung cancer research at the OSUCCC – James In Memory of Martha McCann Lesnick Martha McCann Lesnick, known to all who met her as a kind, thoughtful, and endlessly creative soul, passed away on July 1, 2025 at 70 years old at The OSUCCC – James in Columbus, Ohio. After battling metastatic lung cancer and melanoma for almost two decades, she died as she lived: with courage, strength, and a quiet determination to face whatever came next. Through her health struggles, Martha served as a symbol of resilience and hope for many who confronted similar challenges. Martha was a genuine soul with a smile that would light up a room and a twinkle in her eye that made everyone love her. She was an avid and gifted athlete, an incredibly talented musician and singer; as well as a creative writer of songs, poems, and children’s books. Martha was a woman of action, not words. She believed in and embodied the adage of “do no harm” – to people or the environment. She was a fierce recycler who looked for ways to live efficiently, avoiding the waste of food or natural resources. Proceeds from this tribute will benefit the “Blue Beautiful Skies” Fund to directly benefit the research lab of Dr. David Carbone and the Thoracic Oncology Department at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) for awareness, research, new treatments, and hopefully a cure.

Support the fight against Inflammatory Breast Cancer raised from donors Her Legacy, Our Fight: Eradicating Inflammatory Breast Cancer On August 21, 2009, our world shattered. Our beloved Lori, at just 32 years old, was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC). Her daughter was a baby of six months, and her son was just four. A compassionate family physician who had just started her practice, Lori discovered a warm, hard area on her breast, easily mistaken for a common infection like mastitis. Despite negative mammogram and ultrasound results, Lori, guided by her medical intuition, self-referred to a breast specialist. It was then that the devastating truth emerged: Stage IV Inflammatory Breast Cancer. IBC is a ruthless disease, often presenting in late stages. Lori’s was already metastatic. In January 2013, at the tender age of 36, Lori passed away. We miss her more than words can express. While we cannot bring Lori back, we can and will continue the powerful legacy she ignited. Lori was incredibly selfless, always putting others first. She wanted to raise awareness and research funds for this aggressive form of breast cancer. Before she left us, she started a fundraising event called the Hunt for Hope. This joyous event blossomed, eventually transforming into Strikes Against Cancer. Together, these initiatives have raised over $750,000 for inflammatory breast cancer research. Lori’s treatment often required extensive travel to MD Anderson in Texas to access cutting-edge research and clinical trials. She dreamed that women in Columbus could receive the same top-tier care without leaving home. Today, her dream is a reality. Fueled by our unwavering commitment to everyone touched by breast and inflammatory breast cancer, we have poured our hearts into funding crucial research. This dedication has culminated in something extraordinary: Ohio's very first Inflammatory Breast Cancer Program at The James Cancer Hospital's Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center! This is one of only a handful of such specialized centers in the entire nation. You, our incredible community, made this possible. Your compassion and generosity are directly fueling the fight against this devastating disease, bringing us closer to a future free from it. We are profoundly grateful for your partnership. Make a gift to support cancer research in memory of Lisa and Michael. raised from gifts It was 2009 when Lisa, age 29, learned of the brain cancer diagnosis. To say this came as a surprise is an understatement. Lisa was pursuing her master’s degree at The Ohio State University, and through her surgeries and treatment she successfully acquired that degree and worked in the field as a speech and hearing pathologist. At the same time, Lisa’s brother, Michael, was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma, stage IV. His battle would ensue to a much more serious level at a later date. In 2014, prior to going into Hospice care and passing away, Lisa made last requests to me. One of her requests of me was to continue fundraising in an effort to keep other families from enduring a brain cancer diagnosis and going through what our family had experienced. We have continued our fundraising efforts to fulfill that very commitment to Lisa. Progress has been made toward fulfilling that wish, but we have a long way to go. Lisa was 33 when she died. Michael’s journey with melanoma ended in 2022 when he succumbed to the disease at the age of 47. Melanoma is an underfunded disease in the way of research, education and awareness. Many of our family and friends were shocked that melanoma could be such a brutal cancer and a potentially fatal disease. The goal is to change that and raise awareness while educating the public on the severity of this disease. Our family has endured a tremendous loss and the reminders of that are ever-present. Raising funds for both brain cancer and melanoma research has been and continues to be a positive action that gives us great hope for a cure for both diseases.
