Honduras Sustainable Housing Project
The project is an interdisciplinary team of students at The Ohio State University committed to dedicating their respective skills to making a change in the world. The project is currently in its second year, in which upperclassmen from Architecture, Business, Civil Engineering, and Construction Systems Management are working together throughout this school year to design an improved, affordable, and replicable housing solution for Choluteca, Honduras. In May 2016, the student team will travel to Honduras for two weeks to construct a ‘Pilot’ home they design in Choluteca. The team, however, seeks a holistic solution to change in this environment. Upon recognition that access to credit is a barrier to homeownership for many in this area of Honduras, the team has decided to create a rotating seed fund and mortgage plan for future home construction. Much of the focus of housing development in Honduras has been aid or charity-based; this team desires to create a development solution with a sustainable local business model and stable market.
Our Buckeyefunder giving campaign is no longer active, but if you would like to provide additional support to our project, please do so here. We will use this page to continue to share updates about our project.
