Over the past few months, The Herbert J. Block Memorial Tournament committee has been observing and analyzing the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the health risks posed by COVID-19, we have sadly decided not to hold this year’s Block Tournament, which was scheduled for Sept. 14.
The Block Tournament has raised more than $6.3 million in support of cancer prevention, treatment and cure at Ohio State since it began 37 years ago. Tournament funds also have allowed us to increase the prize for the Herbert and Maxine Block Lectureship Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cancer and to add a Junior Faculty Award. These things have happened because of wonderful long-term support from all of you.
During this unusual time, we feel particularly grateful to have such a loyal group of sponsors, volunteers and participants and to be able to work with the incredible doctors, researchers and the entire team at the OSUCCC – James.
While we will miss the energy, excitement and spirit of the tournament, the fight against cancer remains and we will continue to do all that we can to help maintain momentum and progress toward creation of a cancer-free world through advocacy and fundraising. If you wish to donate this year, all contributions will be acknowledged and are deeply appreciated.
