Hi! I am Claire Burton and I am from Wapakoneta, OH. I am a Senior at Ohio State, studying Marketing, with a minor in Design Thinking. I am also a part of the Dean's Leadership Academy through the Fisher College of Business and will graduate with a certificate in Leadership Studies. On campus, I am the President of Student-Alumni Council, a student organization that works to connect current students with Ohio State Alumni. Also, I am the secretary for Ohio Staters, Incorporated, the oldest student service organization on campus. Additionally, I am a member of Ohio State's chapter of Mortar Board, a National College Senior Honor Society. I am truly honored and humbled to serve on Ohio State's Homecoming Court this year with an amazing group of students. Ohio State has afforded me so much during my time here, and this is one way in which I am proud to give back to the university.
The cause that I chose to give to is the Fisher Leadership Initiative. The goal of this program is to build principled leaders. Through my involvement in the Dean's Leadership Academy, which is a part of the Initiative, I have been able to become just that. The Fisher Leadership Initiative has helped me grow both personally and professionally, in ways I never thought I would during college. Some of my favorite classes have been those I have taken for the program, including a class led by Urban Meyer. We had a guest speaker in class, Ohio State's head wrestling coach, Tom Ryan. His speech truly changed my outlook on life, and it resonates with me daily. Without this program and the experiences it has given me, I would not be the leader I am today, or have the wisdom and courage to, most importantly, inspire others who are also capable of leading.
By giving back to the Fisher Leadership Initiative, I hope to encourage other Ohio State students to get involved and seek out these incredible resources that the college offers. Leadership is so important during college and after, and sets all Buckeyes up for success. The Initiative helps students discover and highlight who they are, which is what college is all about.
