Hello! My name is Ose Arheghan, I am a Chinese and Political Science major with a Sexuality Studies minor here at The Ohio State University. I’ve had the privilege of working with the Multicultural Center to lead a Queer and Trans Students of Color Cohort as well as serve in the university’s General Assembly as the LGBTQ+ emissary senator. Currently I chair the Undergraduate Black Caucus and am a proud Morrill Scholar.

As an outspoken and proud member of the LGBTQ+ campus, I cannot overstate the importance of supporting queer students during our transition to college life. My identities, both as a Black student and a member of the trans community have greatly shaped my college experience. As the only college in the Big 10 Alliance without an LGBTQ+ Center, it is imperative we all do our part individually to support our youth.

The scholarship funds provided by the Scarlet and Gay LGBTQ Alumni Society allow queer students to offset the costs of college. One of my first experiences on Ohio State’s campus was during my senior year of high school. I was a Harold A. McIntosh Scholarship for LGBTQ Students recipient as an incoming freshman and attended the 2018 Lavender Graduation. I was able to see the community LGBTQ students have created on campus and knew when I started as a first year, I would be part of it. As years went by, that Lavender Graduation has grown bigger and bigger and it is my hope that when I cross the stage at the same ceremony that marked the beginning of my Ohio State experience, another incoming student will feel that same sense of belonging.

During my time at Ohio State, I’ve had the opportunity to engage with the LGBTQ+ community through formal programming with student orgs, classes and events sponsored by the Multicultural Center as well as informal 1-on-1 interactions and ensuring the safety and well-being of LGBTQ+ students on campus is important to me. Please join me in donating to support the students who make my Buckeye experience so special.
