Hi there and thank you for visiting my Buckeye Funder page! My name is Ben Duwve (he/him/his), and I am a fourth-year student majoring in Political Science and Public Policy Analysis with a minor in Spanish. I am from Perrysburg, Ohio. On campus, I am heavily involved in Undergraduate Student Government where I currently serve as the organization’s Deputy Chief of Staff. I also serve as a member of Ohio State’s University Senate and was a member of the John Glenn Civic Leadership Community. In addition, I am employed on campus as a Digital Flagship Student Ambassador and as a Research Assistant in the Moritz College of Law.
In deciding what cause to fundraise for, I took a hard look at issues that have affected my upbringing and particularly, my family. Leukemia, breast cancer and skin cancer have all unfortunately repeatedly affected loved ones in my life. This horrible disease has taken away my great-grandfather and one of my aunts, in addition to bringing a great health burden to many other members of my immediate family. The impacts of cancer reach far beyond my family and I know affect millions of people in Ohio and across our country. In addition to this passion of mine, I also acknowledged the enormous impact that Ohio State has had on my development as a young professional and as a student leader. The Buckeye community has shown me enormous love and the power of selfless devotion to others. Combining the passion and research potential of our university, it felt right to choose a cause that united these ideas.
With all of these factors in mind, I decided to use my platform to fundraise for The James Fund for Life. This fund was created to support efforts at The Ohio State University’s Comprehensive Cancer Center in the fight against all forms of cancer. These funds will support critical research that advances Ohio State’s efforts to end the devastation of cancer and uplift survivors. Ohio State’s research efforts have already brought comfort and reassurance to so many families who have been affected by this disease. Every dollar makes an impact, and every dollar inches us closer to ending an issue that has brought so much pain to so many of us. Please join me in supporting this cause and building a cancer-free world!
