Hi everyone! My name is Kelly Tobin, and I am a fourth-year from Crystal Lake, Illinois. I am majoring in Marketing with minors in Design Thinking and Fashion Retail Studies. On campus, I am involved in BuckeyeThon General Body, Alpha Chi Omega, Business of Retail Association and work in Rec Sports Group Fitness.
Over my 4 years on campus, I have been involved in BuckeyeThon at various levels ranging from a Team Member to the Vice President of Finance on the Executive Board. BuckeyeThon is dedicated to funding Oncology, Hematology, Bone Marrow Transplant and Sickle Cell research at Nationwide Children's Hospital in downtown Columbus. Last year, we raised over $1.6 Million for the kids but our work is not done.
As someone who has witnessed seeing a loved one battle with a disease as a kid, this is a cause that is close to my heart. I was lucky where my loved one's disease had a treatment, unlike so many other kids who are still waiting for a cure. I have a deep connection to the mission of BuckeyeThon because it gives these kids hope that other people are helping fight with them to find a cure. I know how stressful and overwhelming it is for the child and their family to be undergoing treatment, and I want to fight for this cure to alleviate that heartache they all experience.
I want every kid to have the opportunity to have a childhood full of laughter and love instead of spending their youth in a hospital room. I want every kid to have the chance to have their dream job. I want every kid to be able to grow up and advocate for a cause they care about. As an organization, we are one generation fighting for the next so that they can become our future leaders.
