This is it! The final 8 hours!

May 31, 2016

We are entering the final hours of our fundraiser and we need your help! As we reach the end of our fundraiser, we want everyone to know that we are extremely grateful and humbled to have your generosity! With approximately 35% remaining, we ask that you please consider sharing this with anyone who you think may be interested (our website's link: https://buckeyefunder.osu.edu/project/2238). Our team is greatly relying on this fundraiser to help with the expenses incurred from this trip! Please help our men get to Belarus, in order to bring home the first ever University Powerlifting World Cup!

Thank you and Go Bucks!

Coach John Downing's Take on the Trip

May 25, 2016

Hello everyone!

This week we decided to ask our coach, John Downing, to tell a little about what this trip and meet means to him, even though he won't be lifting himself. He also touches on the history of the club to show how far we have come in the past couple of years! Enjoy!

Furthermore, we are in our last week (6 days left) of the funder and need a big push! We greatly appreciate everyone who helped us reach our goal and hope that you will consider sharing to anyone who has not had the chance to view our story! https://buckeyefunder.osu.edu/project/2238

Thanks everyone!

Plane Tickets Booked and Final Roster Released!

May 20, 2016

Hello Everyone!

Big news! As of today, we have all officially booked our flights to and from Belarus. This certainly was not an easy trip to book as it is not a common flight from Columbus, Ohio. However after scouring the web, we made it happen! This is a huge step for us as it was one of our biggest hurdles in making the trip happen.

Furthermore, today, the final roster was released via the IPF. The OSU Powerlifting Team is currently projected to finish in first place (can be found here). This is great news, however, our work is far from over. We are working tirelessly to ensure that we come into the meet in top form in order to perform to our greatest potential. Be on the look out for updates on our training, diet, etc. over the next week.

Also, be on the look out for an update in the next few days speaking with our coach, John Downing, about what this trip means from his perspective. John is a decorated powerlifter who has competed in many internationals events. While that may be the case, he explains why this meet may be his most important one so far.

Lastly, we are entering the final week of our fundraiser and we need your help. We still have roughly half way to go and are looking for a big push these next couple of days. If you have already supported, we appreciate it greatly, and we ask that you please consider sharing this with anyone who you think may be interested (our website's link: https://buckeyefunder.osu.edu/project/2238). This is our main fundraising method and we are hoping for a big final week!

Thank you and Go Bucks!

Meet the Lifters: Alex McQuillen

May 11, 2016

As we continue to spread the word of the funder, we are extremely happy to announce that we have reached 40% of our goal! This of course would not be possible without all the donors! We cannot thank you enough for your support.

We return again with another installment of “Meet the Lifter.” This one is about Alex McQuillen, our 66kg lifter. He is the current 2016 Raw Collegiate National Champion. Furthermore, he is the only lifter on the team with experience in an international meet. Alex will be a senior this upcoming year and is truly an anchor when it comes to scoring in the team format due to his exceptional performances on the platform.

Learn why Alex is so excited for the trip to Belarus, what makes this meet so special, and why Raw Collegiate Nationals was his favorite meet of his career. Also learn about the insane “cut” Alex has to make to qualify for the 66kg weight class. It is by far the most extreme cut on the team as he loses nearly 10% of his body mass only 2 hours before lifting!

Continue to check back for more updates and enjoy the video!

Meet the Lifters: Josh Enmark

May 06, 2016

As we come to the end of our first week of fundraising, we are nearly 1/3 of the way of meeting our goal we set to help our lifters! We cannot thank you all enough!

We'd like to give you some insight on our lifters, how they've gotten to where they are, and what competing on the world stage means to them. As such, we've created a little mini series we've dubbed "Meet the Lifters." This update, we'd like you to meet Josh Enmark, one of two of our 83kg lifters! We hope you enjoy learning more about our team, and gain a better understanding of how prestigious this event is!

Be on the lookout for more updates in the near future on our other team members! As always, we are extremely humbled to have you join us in this journey we are partaking in, and we hope you grow to enjoy powerlifting as much as we do!

Who's on the team?

May 05, 2016

On April 18th, The Ohio State Men’s Team officially accepted their bid to compete in the first ever IPF Collegiate World Cup. After accepting the bid, it was essential to start planning out all the details (flights, hotel, etc.). The most vital part aspect was choosing the 7 members that would be most suited to give our team the best chance to win. While personal bios on each lifter will be updated on this site, it is important to look at the overall team and just how we got to this point.

Overall, the team sent 30 lifters to the 2016 Collegiate Raw National Championship. Of those 30, 19 competed for the men’s team to help secure the second place finish that secured the team’s bid for Worlds. Of those 19, the final roster consists of 7 men that will be traveling to Belarus to compete. Meet the members of the 2016 World Team below:

Alex Mcquillen – 66kg Weight Class

Josh Enmark – 83kg Weight Class

David Yeung – 83kg Weight Class

Sean Moser – 93kg Weight Class

Steve Kearney – 105kg Weight Class

Danny Misencik  - 120kg Weight Class

Haakon Borstad – 120+ Weight Class

John Downing - Coach

Ohio State will be joining Army and Rutgers as the collegiate teams representing the United States in this IPF meet.

As the event is held in Belarus, sending eight people half way around the world can be expensive. While the university is helping us with some costs, this is a very expensive trip and most of the costs will land on the members who were selected to compete. In order to gain an understanding of what a donation would be contributing to, a breakdown of the expenses is below:

Team Fee: $1050

Flights: ~$9600

Hotel: $600

Uniforms: $1200

Travel costs (food, insurance, visas, etc): $2000

The total cost comes out to roughly $15,000 for the trip. Although this is a very expensive trip, we think it is necessary to take advantage of this unique opportunity to represent OSU and the USA.

We have already raised 23% of our goal and that number continues to rise! That 23% has already taken a huge chunk out of the cost of flights (obviously the most expensive part of this trip)!

If you have already donated, please take a minute to share this website with anyone who you think would be interested in following our journey to Belarus. Also, be on the look out for more updates in the near future on our team members, the progress we are making, and how we are preparing for this meet!

Thank you again!
