Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's fundraising campaign and competed in the Annual Battle of the Classes. With your help, the program was able to raise over $49,000!
This year the 21st Cohort came in first place with 80% of the students donating - we cannot thank you enough!
Regardless of the winning class, we appreciate the support from each and every one of you. None of the opportunities our students receive would be possible if not for your continued contributions. Because of you, Cohort students are able to travel and interact with business professionals from all over the world. They are able to make a lasting impact on their communities and at Ohio State. And most importantly, they are given opportunities that challenge them to become tomorrow's leaders.
To everyone in the Cohort family - thank you.
My name is Samina Hejeebu, and I am a fourth-year studying Finance and Fashion & Retail Studies in the 23rd Honors Cohort Program. As I get ready to take on my last semester at Ohio State, I’ve been reflecting quite a bit on my time as a Buckeye. One of the moments that continues to come back to me as one of my proudest accomplishments is my Impact Challenge Project, Patched. 8 students came together to impact mental health on campus in an unconventional manner: fashion. Our goal in creating this brand was to not only use it as a way to identify advocates and allies of mental health, but to also provide resources and education opportunities to students on campus. We realized mental health wasn’t getting the emphasis it needed on campus and that you truly never know the invisible struggles of the student sitting beside you in class.
Even though our junior year was cut a bit short and we weren’t able to execute our plans as we initially hoped, we continued to pivot over the course of extreme uncertainty. While working through this adversity, we still managed to create and sell over 300 different garments, raise over $2,000 in profit, and even won a nationwide contest sponsored by Bumble for an additional $5,000. All of this is being invested right back into Ohio State for additional mental health resources with the student organization Mental Health Matters.
The accomplishments of this team continue to amaze me. From the passion each member showed throughout the year to being able to still remain active in advocating for mental health in the midst of a global pandemic, this team did more than I could have imagined. You might be wondering how we got started: it started with a lot of passion and an initial amount of funding from donors like you. None of this would have been possible without you so thank you for your unwavering support of the Honors Cohort Program.
Thank you again to everyone who participated in our 48-Hour Matching Campaign - it only took about 9 hours to achieve the full $10,000 match from Laith Khalaf!
With just a few days left in our fundraising campaign, the 21st Cohort is in the lead with over 60% of the class donating. They are closely followed by the 19th and 22nd Cohorts. There's still plenty of time to donate and ensure your class wins the annual Battle of the Classes!
Wow! Thank you all so much for your generous gifts as part of our matching gift challenge. The last 48 hours have been outstanding, and we want to keep up that momentum! Please share the Honors Cohort campaign with your friends and family!
The 21st Cohort is currently in the lead for our Battle of the Classes challenge, with 50% of the class donating. They are closely followed by the 22nd, 23rd, and 20th Cohorts. Who will win it all?
Thanks again for your continued support!
Hi everyone,
My name is Abby Hinson, and I am a senior in the 23rd Honors Cohort from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Being from out of state, I came into Ohio State longing to find a community amongst the 70,000 students. Through the Honors Cohort Program, I found exactly that, and so much more.
During my Impact Challenge project, my team produced a documentary covering the mental health struggles students on campus face (view trailer here!) — through this, I discovered my passion for advocacy work surrounding this important issue; I secured a full-time job in New York City because of the incredible Cohort alumni who are constantly looking to give back; and most importantly, I was able to surround myself with 29 of the brightest individuals I have ever met — I found my community of support and friendship at Ohio State.
Thanks to the support of alumni, parents and donors like you, I have had incredible experiences through the Honors Cohort program and that’s why I thank you for supporting this year’s fundraising campaign, which runs through December 31st.
With your support, Honors Cohort will continue to provide unparalleled experiences to current and future students.
On behalf of the 23rd and 24th Cohorts, thank you for supporting the Honors Cohort Program.
Sincerely,
Abby Hinson
