The LiFEsports initiative has been using sport “to prepare youth for life and leadership” since 2009. More than 8,000 deserving young people in our community have directly participated in our summer camp and clinic programming. LiFEsports recognizes that youth sports are about much more than playing ball – it’s about giving young people skills they can use both on and off the field. That’s why LiFEsports uses athletics to teach youth valuable life skills. Our activities focus on four critical social skills that will help them grow and mature: Self-control, Effort, Teamwork and Social Responsibility, or S.E.T.S.
Last year, due to COVID-19, LiFEsports had to alter how we served youth in our communities. Despite many challenges, we quickly pivoted to a virtual ‘Sport in a Bag’ Summer Camp, serving over 450 children. We also partnered with the Lindy Infante Foundation to distribute over 8,000 Sport in a Bag kits throughout Ohio. While we were able to offer camps virtually, last summer left us all longing for a return to working directly with these kids. There is nothing quite like camp in person: the camaraderie, the laughter and the lifelong memories. We all hoped for brighter summer days ahead!
This summer HOPE (and camp) returns!
This summer, LiFEsports is working to offer summer camp programming in not just 1 but 5 locations: Ohio State’s main campus, the Beatty Community Center, the Linden Community Center, the KIPP School and Inside Out in Springfield, Ohio. To do that, we need your help. It is clear that LiFEsports programming is even more crucial this summer given the challenges for youth and their families over the past year. We want to be ready to serve them.
Will you join us in making 2021 the Summer of Hope? Your gift today will help LiFEsports continue to impact our community, one child at a time.
Provide a t-shirt, water bottle and sling bag for each camp participant.
