Scott began his fight against melanoma in 2014 and continued to fight each day until he took his last breath surrounded by all the love from his family on March 15, 2021.
In the beginning, when he was first diagnosed in 2014, Scott put his faith and life in the hands of doctors and researchers at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James). Shortly after his diagnosis, Scott decided to take a leap of faith and enter a clinical trial that allowed him to fight this cancer head on. The clinical trial successfully helped Scott fight off the cancer and regain back control of his life.
He enjoyed going on trips with his wife, riding his motorcycle, meeting with the car club in his plum crazy car and spending time with family when he wasn't working hard. The clinical trial allowed Scott to continue enjoying all the things he loved in his life until the cancer returned four years later in 2018. This diagnosis felt different than before but Scott wanted to fight this off again. He entered another clinical trial and although it was not successful, the doctors at the OSUCCC – James worked closely with Scott to create a treatment plan based on his medical needs and what he wanted. The doctors never gave up on him and his family is forever thankful for all of their dedication and knowledge on fighting this disease.
After two years of treatment, Scott's cancer began to spread to other parts of his body in early 2021. The melanoma started to attack his liver and his life was never the same again. In late February, Scott found out the cancer had spread to his brain and our lives were changed forever. Although the cancer was spreading, the doctors continued to provide a safe and comfortable end of his disease. A few weeks later, Scott said goodbye to his family and friends on March 15th while at the OSUCCC – James.
The doctors at the OSUCCC – James were by his side every step of the way and we will always be thankful for their dedication to help Scott through this disease. In Scott's memory, we are asking for donations toward the melanoma research at the OSUCCC – James. We hope these funds help others prevent and fight melanoma.
