While the camping season is winding down for Ohio 4-H members, many are already looking forward to returning next year. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we’re able to help ensure the financial security of our Ohio 4-H camp facilities. Your contributions will ensure campers will be able to return to camp in the future and that future generations of 4-H’ers will be able to experience the magic of 4-H camp.
Thank you to everyone who has given to support Ohio 4-H camp facilities. After a year hiatus from camp, Licking County 4-H families were more than happy to be back at 4-H Camp Ohio for their 2021 camp, with available camper registration spaces filling in less than 24 hours after registration was opened! It was described by a few parents as the “black Friday of 4-H”, although registration actually opened on a Monday!
The Licking County 4-H Summer Camp was held June 18-20, 2021 at 4-H Camp Ohio in Saint Louisville. Their 2021 camp consisted of 108 campers, 48 counselors, and 15 adult staff members; a fun fact about our teen and adult staff team – we had eight pairs of siblings, one mother-father-daughter pairing, and one mother-son pairing! This year’s camp was western-themed and culminated with a chance to take on a mechanical bull!
Throughout the three days of camp, participants enjoyed sessions such as canoeing, stream study, Flying Squirrel, tie-dye, shrinky dinks, fabulous food fun, outdoor recreation, and line dancing. In addition to activities such as campfire programs, water games, and Ag Olympics, and a very creative talent show.

Thank you to everyone who has given to support Ohio 4-H camp facilities. Camp season is in full swing – but even in the middle of June, some of our camps have creative themes that transport them to a different time of year. This year, Erie County 4-H Camp had a Halloween-themed camp, Let the Ghoul Times Roll, where camp attendance was cut in half due to COVID.
This year’s highlights included a Halloween Carnival, including a costume contest, and a hunt for eyeballs (ping pong balls) that were hidden around camp.
Other fun activities included beach games, string art, leather crafts, corcling, and teambuilding activities.

Thank you to everyone who has given to support Ohio 4-H camp facilities. 4-H camps are happening all across Ohio. Madison County 4-H Educator Frances Foos shared about their recent 4-H camp.
Singing. Dancing. Playing Games. Archery. Color Wars. Campfires. Crafts. Cooking, and more! These are just a few things youth got to experience at 4-H camp this summer in Madison County. Perhaps most important was the memories and friendships made along the way. This year, the theme was “see it in color,” so you can imagine the messy and colorful evening programs (finger painting, tie-dye, spatter paint, color run, and more!). 726 days without camp is not something I ever want to do again. Camp may have looked a little different this year, but memories were made and fun was had by all!

Thank you to everyone who has given to support Ohio 4-H camp facilities. Camp planning is in full-swing for camps to start happening in-person this month! Tar Hollow 4-H Camp counselor Gretchen shared a little bit of her excitement to be back at camp again this summer. She said, “I’ve missed 4-H camp the most of all the things we missed out on this past year due to COVID.”
She has been camping at Tar Hollow since she was a Cloverbud and has fond memories of camping with fellow counselors and campers.
Gretchen shared that while camp planning looks a little different with masks and social distancing, it has not changed in terms of spirit and enthusiasm. She shared that they’re meeting at the fairgrounds instead of at the extension office in order to maintain proper social distancing, but their training and planning looks similar to how it has in the past. The Ross County 4-H Camp counselors are eager to get back to camp, see the campers, and make new memories and new great friends this summer at Tar Hollow. They’re planning a 70’s themed camp and have been practicing their line dance at planning meetings, specifically this dance to Kung Fu Fighting.
