*Breath of Hope and The OSUCCC - James are committed to the health and safety of our community. During the event at the Ohio Union guests will be required to wear a mask except when eating or drinking, regardless of vaccination status.
If you have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or are experiencing any symptoms, we ask that you please do not attend the event. We will be doing temperature checks at registration and attendance will be granted only if your temperature is below 100.5.
We are closely monitoring the COVID situation and we strongly suggest that in-person attendees be fully vaccinated or have a negative COVID test within 72 hours of the event. If the situation continues to get worse, it is possible that we will mandate proof of vaccination or a negative test to attend. Stay tuned for updates.
We will communicate directly if plans must be adjusted as we approach the event date.
A virtual program will be available for those unable to attend the event in person.
The “Breath of Hope” Gala was started by Sandy and Mark Lomeo after Mark was diagnosed with lung cancer in April 2014. They were surprised to discover the lack of funding for lung cancer as compared to many other types of cancer. They decided to raise money by having a dinner gala. They formed a steering committee (created by Annie Cacciato) to advance their cause. Fundraising efforts from the event support “Blue Beautiful Skies” Fund to directly benefit the Thoracic Oncology Department at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) for awareness, research, new treatments and hopefully a cure.
Presently, lung cancer has a dismal survival rate. It kills more people per year than breast, colon and prostate cancer combined. In fact, lung cancer kills twice as many women as breast cancer. Given the poor survival rates of lung cancer, your help is needed. Please, support “Breath of Hope” and its mission by either attending the upcoming event or by making a donation that is meaningful to you.
Everyone Deserves a Breath of Hope.
Our mission is to bring hope to the men and women diagnosed with lung cancer every day and raise funds to support the innovative research necessary for a cure. Check out our website to learn more.
Join us in funding innovative research and programs that will save lives. Your donation will directly fund ground-breaking basic and translational lung cancer research (including clinical trials), research training, early detection and lung cancer prevention led by internationally renowned lung cancer expert and cancer survivor, Dr. David Carbone at The James Thoracic Oncology Center. Please consider making a donation of any amount that is meaningful to you. Each gift will help change lives and bring The James closer to conquering lung cancer.
