Hello! My name is Maddie Allman, and I am a current senior and first-generation college student from Chillicothe, Ohio. I major in Community Leadership: Community & Extension Education and double minor in Youth Development and Rural Sociology. After graduation, I plan to attend graduate school and pursue Extension Education as a career. As a child, my first exposure to higher education was through The Ohio State University Extension, 4-H Youth Development programming. 4-H programming gave me the skills I needed to succeed in school and allowed me to grow in a safe space. I am forever thankful for my 4-H experience, and I hope that as an Extension Educator, I can give children the same education and opportunities I received as a child that led me down the pathway to seek a college degree.

During my time at Ohio State, I have joined multiple organizations and involvements that have shaped my college experience. Some of my involvements include Undergraduate Research, the Buckeyes First Student Organization, the Buckeye Leadership Fellows program, the Community Leadership student liaison on the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership (ACEL) Alumni Board, Ohio State Honors & Scholars as an Arts Scholar, the 115th Class of the SPHINX Senior Honorary, Ohio 4-H Youth Development-Student Program Assistant, National 4-H Conference Roundtable Facilitator, and Collegiate 4-H at The Ohio State University. My success and involvement at Ohio State would not have been possible without my 4-H experience.

The 4-H Youth Development program made me the person I am today and still continues to influence my life in multiple facets. I continue to volunteer with the 4-H program at county, state, and national levels in an effort to support and further the program’s success. As I learn more about community development, rural poverty, and access to education in my studies, I cannot help but think how important youth development programs are in communities like mine. I hope that my fundraiser can provide financial support to the Ohio 4-H program to help further education and outreach to youth across the state of Ohio through overnight camping, after-school, county fair and club initiatives, and other important programs facilitated by the 4-H program. You can learn more about the 4-H program here or at Ohio4h.org

“4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills as they work in partnership with caring adults. In 4-H we are committed to helping young people develop skills that will help them succeed. We want to empower all youth to reach their full potential.”

It is truly an honor to serve as a member of the 2021 Ohio State University Homecoming Court! I hope that you will help me reach my goal of filling in all 50 states on the donor wall through a financial contribution, sharing my fundraiser on social media, and supporting the Ohio 4-H program by telling those you know about my cause. Thank you so much for your support!
