Buckeyes for Harm Reduction promotes a cause that is very close to me. Growing up in Columbus, I saw the devastating impacts of the opioid crisis first hand. From community members to fellow tennis players, I observed how widespread this epidemic is. This is why I co-founded The SOAR Initiative and its student chapter, Buckeyes for Harm Reduction. We work to increase harm-reduction resources on campus by handing out safe-use supplies such as fentanyl test strips and Narcan. We also host awareness events such as Harm Reduction Week, the Opioid Town Hall and campus-wide Narcan trainings. The funds I raise through Student Life will be going directly back to students by helping them be more aware of the dangerous effects of substances and reduce the harm for fellow students and community members. By raising awareness about the opioid crisis that has deep impacts in Columbus, I hope to support Buckeyes for Harm Reduction in their mission and values to help our community.
