Hello! My name is Tanish Gandhi, and I am a current fourth-year student majoring in Biomedical Science and pursuing a minor in Pharmaceutical Science. As a Columbus native, I have known what it means to be a Buckeye since birth. Attending Ohio State was a dream come true for me, and I am honored to serve on this year’s homecoming court with an outstanding group of students.

Throughout my time at Ohio State, I have been able to explore a variety of interests outside of the classroom. I have been heavily involved in cancer research, joining a lab and working on my own research project under the Pelotonia Fellowship. I have also enjoyed volunteering at The James and in the greater Columbus community at Helping Hands Free Clinic. However, my largest involvement on campus is with Pass the Class, a non-profit that connects current students at Ohio State with underprivileged and homeless youth in the Columbus area. Pass the Class was the first student organization I joined as a freshman, and it has had a tremendous impact on my college experience.

Our goal at Pass the Class is to provide volunteer academic mentors and tutors for youth. For the majority of homeless youth, a shaky academic foundation can hinder success in higher education. Pass the Class was founded to meet the needs of these individuals. Through free 1-on-1 tutoring sessions, we help students obtain basic competencies in the sciences and the humanities. Our tutors also help disadvantaged students enroll in classes, apply for financial aid, and register for standardized tests. For those who cannot attend college, we offer tutoring in financial literacy, resume creation, and GED prep, which can improve their immediate job prospects.

The funds collected from your support will directly fund classroom supplies and materials for the students we work with. Please join me in supporting Pass the Class and helping us fulfill our mission of empowering at-risk youth to achieve their goals. Your contribution will help us make a difference in the lives of many.
