Hello! My name is Ryan Miller, and I am a senior majoring in Marketing with a minor in Political Science. On campus, I am heavily involved in the Fisher College of Business and participate in the Honors Cohort Program, Students Consulting for Nonprofit Organizations and work as a Peer Advisor teaching an introductory business course for freshmen. Outside of Fisher, I am a member of the comedy committee on the Ohio Union Activities Board, and I also serve as Coca-Cola’s campus ambassador for Ohio State. Although these involvements have shaped my time at Ohio State, I am most excited to be a member of the 2021 Homecoming Court.
Ever since my days of roaming the halls of Wellsville Jr./Sr. High School, I have always noticed the disparities of wealth between all of my peers and how it affects their accessibility to opportunity. In high school, I started a nonprofit called The Tiger Closet that made food, hygiene supplies, and school supplies accessible to students in an anonymous way so that they could focus on their education without having to focus on where their next meal was coming from, or worrying about what other students would think of them. I believe that all students deserve the same opportunity to attain a higher education regardless of their financial situation. During my time at Ohio State, I have been fortunate enough to never have to worry about a financial situation displacing me from the course that I am on. However, this is not the typical experience for all students.
Although I do not have The Tiger Closet at Ohio State, my past experiences have pushed me to use my platform as a member of the 2021 Ohio State Homecoming Court to support students at Ohio State living in impoverished conditions. I am honored to be fundraising for the Student Food Pantry Fund, and I hope that you will join me in making sure that no Buckeye has to worry about finding their next meal.
