Hello! My name is Jackson Stoller, and I am currently studying Public Policy Analysis and Finance in my senior year at Ohio State. On campus, I am involved in myriad activities, but a few that take up the majority of my time include serving as the president of Student-Alumni Council, a Peer Advisor in the Fisher College of Business, and sitting on the Board of Directors of the Ohio State Alumni Association.
After graduation I plan to pursue a career in global development, with a focus on agriculture and food systems. Fortunately, I have had the privilege of gaining professional experiences within this field throughout my time in college and have been inspired by organizations in Columbus combatting food insecurity. Buckeye Food Alliance (BFA) is one of those premier leaders here at Ohio State.
In 2014, a research group at Ohio State conducted a survey that determined 15 percent of undergraduate students—approximately 7,000—suffer from the effects of very low food security. This means that, on a frequent basis, these Buckeyes are unable to afford enough food to adequately feed themselves. Just two years later, BFA opened its doors to the Ohio State community. BFA operates as a fully functioning pantry to all Ohio State students and does not require them to reveal financial need.
Food security is a pivotal factor in the status of an individual’s well-being. Being a full-time college student is difficult enough—and with the resources the university is equipped with, no student should ever have to worry about feeding themselves or their loved ones.
