Remembering Hal Hazelett

Although my giving page is no longer active, you can still donate. If you would like to provide any additional support, please make a gift here.

My name is Craig Hazelett. I wanted to help create this page in honor and memory of my father, Hal Hazelett, who passed away in 2001.

My father was a well-known, well-loved man by all who encountered him. He had a servant’s heart and touched countless lives by his gifts of time, talent, and generosity. He was a founding faculty member at Ohio State Marion, and he taught there for more than 50 years. He was dubbed one of the “first nighters” because he began teaching that first night for Ohio State Marion classes held at Harding High School in 1957. He always felt honored to teach for The Ohio State University at Marion.

Hal was honored with one of the eight Founding Fathers marble benches located on campus at Ohio State Marion.

He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the United States Navy as a radio operator. His love for country and fellow citizens was evidenced by his wide variety of involvement in many civic and service organizations including church, Boy Scouts, parent teacher organizations, YMCA and more.

The phrase “Everybody Knew Him” fit my dad. People still remember him and share memories of ways he positively touched their lives. Numerous students have cited Dad’s dedication and enthusiasm for his profession and his focus on their success. The common thread was, “if it was not for your father, I may not have made it thru the math requirement to graduate!!”  He really loved tutoring students who needed a little help.

The Hal Hazelett Endowment Fund was created in his honor to support to students who demonstrate financial need, have a 2.8 or higher grade point average and are enrolled at Ohio State Marion, with preference given to students who demonstrate interest in pursuing careers in math, science, or education.

Please consider donating to my Hal’s scholarship fund. Your support is appreciated!

When you donate to the fund, you will receive a gift acknowledgement letter from Ohio State that you can use for tax purposes.
