Hi! My name is Andrew Pierce and I want to ask for your help. As a fourth-year student in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, I deeply value community engagement for public service. This value began when I was a child at Columbus City Schools (CCS). My passion for public service was shaped by CCS teachers and a belief was fostered that no matter the challenge or obstacle facing our society, a well-educated, optimistic and passionate group of individuals can solve any problem they face. This belief guided me throughout high school as I led community conversations with the nonprofit I co-founded, The WORTH Foundation, taught civic education courses as a college student, led me to the White House where I recently completed a summer internship, and now as Undergraduate Student Body President at The Ohio State University. All of my accomplishments can be traced back to my formative years learning from Columbus City Schools teachers and the opportunities given to me within the district.

The Dr. Tina Pierce Social Justice Scholarship, named after my mother, is a great way to ensure Columbus City Schools and The Ohio State University have a long-lasting legacy and partnership of creating service minded leaders. I was fortunate enough to receive scholarships that have allowed me to pursue my passions on a debt-free path, yet there are others who are not as lucky. In a time of climate crises, political polarization and general unease for what the future holds, our society needs to prepare pipelines that cultivate leaders and innovators who will pursue a career in social justice and public service to solve the problems our communities face.

By being on this page, you have an opportunity to support a young high school leader who aspires to solve the world’s challenges. The scholarship can be given to any Columbus City Schools graduate majoring in political science, African American and African studies, sociology, public affairs, women’s gender and sexuality studies, criminology, criminal justice or other social justice oriented majors at The Ohio State University. Additionally, this is a scholarship that Pays It Forward within the community. Recipients are expected to volunteer for community service and give back to the Columbus community. With your support, you are not only helping a future leader pay for an education, but you are also helping a community foster the future. I hope we can count on your support!
