Professor Theresa A. Powell earned her PhD in educational administration from the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University in 1983. A nationally renowned scholar, she dedicated more than 30 years to the student affairs profession, including at the Ohio Board of Regents and Western Michigan University. At the time of her death on January 2, 2023, she served as vice president of Student Affairs at Temple University.
In addition to her administrative and faculty roles, she was active in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) in many capacities. This included as a founder of the African American Men’s and Women’s Summits, regional vice president, president, national chair of the Women in Student Affairs Network and Foundation Board of Directors member.
Always a loyal Buckeye, her impact on the college’s Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) program will live on through the funds you contribute. Your gifts will be awarded for scholarships and emergency support to HESA students in the College of Education and Human Ecology.
Senior Vice President of Student Life Melissa S. Shivers shares, “Dr. Powell’s heart for others was palpable. She made everyone feel special because she believed that you are special. Always remaining humble while casting a bright light on others was her superpower. We are better because we knew her and blessed because she loved us.”
Please join us in honoring the remarkable life and professional contributions of Theresa A. Powell by making a gift to support graduate students at Ohio State.
