The Ohio Staters, Inc. Founders Endowment Fund (605385)
Founded in 1935, Ohio Staters is a service organization of students and faculty/staff whose projects and programs — many supported by this fund — improve the quality of life at Ohio State. Barbie was invited to join in 1979 and was a member until retirement.
Brad A. Myers Sphinx Scholarship (483582)
Sphinx is a senior class honorary founded in 1907. This scholarship is annually awarded to help Sphinx members attend graduate school. Both Jim (1984) and Barbie (1980) are honorary Sphinx links. Jim served as an advisor to Sphinx 1984-1988. Jim and Barbie have known Brad since he was a student leader in the ’70s and later as an Ohio State colleague.
Ohio State Mortar Board Alumni Council Fund (313764)
Ohio State Mortar Board Senior Honor Society was founded in 1914 and was a founding chapter of National Mortar Board, now having nearly 250 chapters across the country. This fund helps support our student chapter’s activities and programs including initiation, retreat and national conference attendance. It also supports an alumni newsletter and significant anniversary reunions. Barbie is a long-time member of the Alumni Council, serving as President from 2018-2022 and continuing as newsletter editor.
Greek Affairs Education Fund (602734)
Barbie started this fund when she was Coordinator for Greek Affairs 1974-1985. The income from this fund supports activities and programs of the Fraternity and Sorority Life office. Barbie was one of the founders of the national Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors and was its first elected president. Barbie has served more than 30 years on the Board of the Order of Omega national Greek honor society. She is a member of Pi Beta Phi and a former chapter advisor and a national Province President. Jim is a member of Phi Gamma Delta and served on the fraternity’s Board of Chapter Advisors and House Corporation.
Margaret Herlan Busch Student Assistance Fund (600994)
This fund helps the Student Advocacy Center distribute modest grants to students with serious and immediate needs. As College Secretary of University College and as Assistant Dean of Arts and Sciences, Jim often assisted students with unexpected emergencies that affected their academic careers. The current Director of the Center was Jim’s administrative assistant in Arts and Sciences.
Ohio State Kindness Fund (316756)
This fund supports programs and initiatives that promote kindness and civility at The Ohio State University and beyond to inspire a generation of individuals who are kind to one another and themselves. Barbie and Jim KINDLY requested to include this fund. They have both participated in several of the kindness programs offered by the university . . . and, as we know, set the example as two of the kindest Buckeyes around.
