Hello! My name is Logan Nethers (she/they) and I am a fourth year honors undergrad and first year grad student in Biological Engineering! I am from a rural community outside of Newark, Ohio, where growing up it was my dream to attend The Ohio State University. Now that I am here, I have found my home with a diverse community that has an incredible culture of service.

In addition to my love of service, I also love to travel and learn about other cultures. The organization, Buck-I-SERV, on campus has enabled me to combine all of these passions. Buck-I-SERV sends Ohio State students to other communities across the country and world to provide our time to help others with their service projects and goals. These service trips take place during academic breaks and are substance free to provide a healthy and productive way for buckeye students to spend our time.

While attending these trips, I have personally provided nearly 160 community service hours, made countless friends within Ohio State and outside and learned about the cultures and issues that many different parts of our country face. My most impactful experiences were learning about the Cajun culture in Southern Louisiana while engaging in service related to the climate crisis and making countless friends across the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma while building infrastructure to help disabled tribal members be able to stay in and enjoy their homes.

Funds to support Buck-I-SERV help to subsidize the cost of trips for students so that students from all backgrounds can attend. I personally would not have been able to attend most of the trips I have been on at full price and would not have been able to make the impacts that I have and been transformed for the better by this program as well. I want as many students as possible at Ohio State to have this opportunity to learn and travel while providing support to communities around the globe.
