My name is Priyanka Paradkar and I am a senior majoring in Biomedical Science and minoring in Medical Pharmacology. Through my time at The Ohio State University, I've been able to develop my passion for advocacy and pursuit of health equity through my volunteering as part of the Patient Advocacy and Education Committee at the Columbus Free Clinic and leadership in Vocalize, a nonprofit organization tackling the language barrier in healthcare. I have also been able to partake in research studying neuromuscular and degenerative disease as well as characteristics and treatments of autism spectrum disorder.
The Nisonger Center was among the first group of federally funded University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities and is a hub for interdisciplinary research, education, training and clinical services with the goal to improve the lives of people with neurodevelopmental disabilities. I began volunteering with the Transition Options in Postsecondary Settings (TOPS) program at the Nisonger Center 2 years ago - a comprehensive transition and postsecondary program designed to support students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I absolutely love being a mentor and friend to my fellow students in the program and learning more about the cutting-edge research and comprehensive treatment programs at the Nisonger Center. I also began working as a student research assistant this past year studying therapeutic treatments and pain perception in individuals with autism, aiming to advance our knowledge about the disorder.
I am honored to have the opportunity to share my interests and fundraise for an institute I am passionate about. I've decided to raise funds for the Nisonger Center Technology Fund, which supports the development and purchase of new technologies designed to enhance independence for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
