My name is Emma Patterson, and I am a fourth-year student here at Ohio State and an active member of the Ohio Air National Guard. I am majoring in Political Science with a minor in philosophy and a certification in diversity, equity and inclusion. My ultimate goal is to attend law school, specializing in estate law. On top of my studies, I am the outgoing president of Bucket and Dipper Junior Honorary and the incoming historian for the Ohio State chapter of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society. I also participate in the Undergraduate Student Government as their new Senior Administrative Councilor. I believe that each of these experiences allows me to represent multiple facets of university life while still allowing me to give back to the community at large.

I was lucky to find my community early on at The Ohio State University and have the resources to attend the university while only maintaining a part-time job. However, this is not a luxury afforded to many student veterans on our campus. Many student veterans struggle to afford necessities such as food, transportation and housing. Others struggle to find community in an ever-growing campus environment, often feeling the strong effects of isolation and other related mental health issues. Military and Veterans Services at Ohio State aims to alleviate these issues by providing these essential resources to our student veterans. They pride themselves on creating community connections, mentoring opportunities and academic resources for those who have served our country. While working for the office as a Veteran Peer Sponsor, I have seen firsthand how these events impact our students. From allowing students to learn from future employers to creating free bags of food for student veterans in need, this office works tirelessly to assist student veterans on this campus.

It is vitally important that this office has the crucial resources to continue these events and programming for student veterans, as many of their most critical programs rely on the generosity of outside donors. Please join me in making a gift and supporting student veterans on our campus who deserve to not only have access to vital resources but also have access to events that allow them to feel a part of this community of Buckeyes!
