Although my giving page is no longer active, you can still donate. If you would like to provide any additional support, please make a gift here and specify in the comments that your gift is for the Crosswalk Outreach to the Homeless student organization.
Hello! My name is Rheanna Velasquez, and I am a senior at The Ohio State University from Wooster, Ohio. I am a Neuroscience major with minors in English and Public Health and the Arts.
This is my fourth year volunteering with Crosswalk Outreach to the Homeless, a student-led group providing warm meals, conversation, clothing and other supplies to community members in need on a weekly basis. I have also been involved in leading a variety of philanthropic efforts with the Pilipino Student Association, such as volunteering with the Mid-Ohio Food Collective and supporting rehousing efforts in the Philippines through The PUSO Foundation, as well as working with older adults through the Age Friendly Innovation Center in the College of Social Work. The diverse and truly incredible community-centered work taking place throughout the university inspire me and make me proud to call Ohio State home.
I am honored to serve on the 2023 Ohio State Homecoming Court and want to use my platform to support Crosswalk Outreach to the Homeless. From 2008 to 2022, Columbus experienced the largest rise in homelessness among comparable cities such as Austin, Denver and Indianapolis. Homelessness in Central Ohio has also increased more than 20%, from a point-in-time count of 1,912 unhoused in 2022 to 2,337 in 2023.
Crosswalk Outreach allows students to interface with this key issue impacting our community, take action and become part of something that is greater than themselves. Each year, we serve nearly 500 meals to community members.
Your support will allow Crosswalk Outreach to expand our work of providing warm meals, first aid kits and other much needed supplies to individuals experiencing homelessness. Thank you for considering supporting our cause and go Bucks!
