A Dino Update

July 17, 2018

Our fellow Dino lovers! We have great news! We have reached full funding and have purchased the Cryolophosaurus! We can’t begin to explain how incredibly thankful we are for you and your support in bringing our Dino here to Orton Hall!

The impact this dinosaur will have on the surrounding community is beyond words.

Please make sure to keep an eye out for a special invitation in the upcoming weeks to a special event to be among the first to see the skeleton.

Once again, THANK YOU so much for helping us achieve our goal to bring this dinosaur to campus.

Last Day!

March 31, 2017

We are very grateful to all who have contributed to the Cryolophosaurus crowdfunding campaign.

Thank you very much!

We still have more funds to raise, but March has been fantastic. So, although our giving page is no longer active, you can still donate. If you would like to provide any additional support to our project, please do so here.

Home Stretch

March 27, 2017

The Final Week of Cryolophosaurus Month!

Our crowd funding campaign to raise funds to purchase a dinosaur for the Orton Geological Museum in Orton Hall has been a successful endeavor, in that we have raised more than any previous buckeyefunder campaign. However, we still are short of our goal to get this dinosaur completely into Orton Hall.

This project has received an incredible amount of community support, from “Dough for Dinosaurs” a grassroots effort by Worthington toddlers and their parents, to being featured on two local television channels. Everyone loves dinosaurs!

Help us push the dinosaur all the way into the building!

Great News: Thanks to an anonymous donor, we have $5,000 to match! That means that all gifts coming in today through Friday, March 31st will be matched. Let's turn that $5,000 into $10,000!

If you have not contributed, please consider doing so. If you have, please encourage others to contribute and/or you may wish to contribute again at http://buckeyefunder.osu.edu/dinosaur or stop by the Museum to contribute.

Half-way Point

March 17, 2017

Dinosaurs are fascinating. They are magnet for children and are typically a child's first real interest in science. We predict that this Cryolophosaurus skeleton will as much as double the number of visitors who come to the Orton Geological Museum, thus greatly enhancing our STEM outreach. Even talking about acquisition of a dinosaur skeleton brought out "pre-school dinos" when we kicked off our campaign.

At this point we are half-way through our crowdfunding campaign and we are incredibly grateful to all of you for donating your time and money. Without your help, we would not have gotten as far as we have and we cannot reach our goal without your further help.

By spreading word about this campaign, Cryolophosaurus, and the Orton Geological Museum, we will be able to catapult our current donations to the needed $80,000! Let’s bring this dinosaur to campus!

1 Week into Crowdfunding!

March 08, 2017

Few things get kids as excited about science as dinosaurs.  I had a high school intern who was passionate about dinosaurs – he even came to Montana with me to dig for three summers.  Now he is pursuing a PhD, investigating how minerals can be used to safely store nuclear waste, but it was dinosaurs that got him into science.  Dinosaurs do that, and that is why we want to get a dinosaur in Orton Hall – to inspire the next generation of scientists.

Dinosaurs not only inspire future scientists, they are a great tool for expanding kids’ ideas about their world.  It helps them realize, often for the first time in their life, that things weren’t always the same as they are today.  The fantastic shapes and sizes of dinosaurs are a wonderful stretch of the imagination, but they were real animals that did everything animals do today – breath, eat, sleep, poop, make babies and die.  Dinosaurs can be scary, but because they lived so long ago they pose no threat.

Thank you for your continued support! With your help we can bring this dinosaur to Orton Hall!
