Dr. T. Davis Sydnor, 83, Professor Emeritus at The Ohio State University (OSU) breathed his last at his home in Columbus on October 12, 2023. He was born to Beverly Ford and Eugene Sydnor in Richmond, Virginia on January 27, 1940.

Davis received his B.S. in Horticulture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1962, and Ph.D. in Plant Physiology and Horticulture from North Carolina State University in 1972. In between, he served in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps 1963-65, receiving the Honorable Discharge from U.S. Army Reserve as Captain. From 1965-1969, he served as Vice-President, Southside Nurseries, Inc., Richmond, Virginia.

In 1972, he joined Ohio State, (then) College of Agriculture as Assistant Professor, Landscape Horticulture. He rose in rank to Associate Professor in 1978 and Professor in 1984. In 1995, he transferred to (now) the School of Environment and Natural Resources as Professor of Urban Forestry. He retired in 2011 receiving the title of Professor Emeritus from Ohio State's Board of Trustees. He is the author and co-author of many publications as well as an avid and skilled photographer. It helped him as an educational tool, becoming his lifelong passion. Many of the photographs are in his publication with William F. Cowen, Ohio Trees (2000).

Davis and Ann Schlieser-Sydnor, his wife of 40 years, proudly parented three sons - Thomas, Kirk and Harrison. He thoroughly enjoyed being a grandfather and spoke gushingly of his grandchildren - Henry, Andrew, Lindsey and Thomas.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Worthington United Methodist Church, 600 High Street, Worthington, Ohio.
