Have you given to the WAIP crowdfunding campaign?

February 15, 2018

Alumni and friends-

Have you taken a moment to give to the WAIP crowdfunding campaign this year? Have you shared with friends what you helped do last year? Help us tell the story of Drew, Elizabeth, Ella and Sharon, and encourage others to give so we can send more deserving students to Washington.

Thanks to you and your support, four students had the chance to live in DC, allowing them to begin to build a foundation for their professional careers. You helped students make invaluable connections with alumni. Your gift helped us send four incredible ambassadors for Ohio State to DC to represent our University and the John Glenn College.

We have an opportunity to send six students this year. Dr. Slater, a former staffer of Senator Glenn, has agreed to match, dollar for dollar, up to three full scholarships ($4,200) raised by alumni and friends.

Help us reach our goal by supporting this year's campaign. We are so grateful for your support- we can't do this without you!

Help us send more John Glenn Fellows like Sharon to DC this summer!

February 12, 2018

"WAIP not only gave me a sense of direction for my future career, but also the skills and connections necessary to make those goals into a reality. After WAIP, I am more confident in my ability to navigate the professional world and create the positive change that I have always aspired to."  -Sharon Glenn, John Glenn Fellow and crowdfunding scholarship recipient summer 2017

Last year, we sent Sharon and three others to DC on a full housing scholarship ($4,200). Thanks to you, the housing scholarship enabled Sharon and the other recipients to gain valuable professional experience and live in the heart of our nation's capital. Sharon interned for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), allowing her to help coordinate an Out of Darkness walk in DC to raise awareness, as well as help run AFSP's annual advocacy forum. Outside of her internship, Sharon got to visit the White House, meet Defense Secretary Mattis and visit with both Ohio Senators, Senator Portman and Senator Brown. It was an action-packed summer and one with long-term impact.

This year, we have the chance to send six Glenn Fellows to DC on full housing scholarship. Dr. Slater, a former staffer of Senator Glenn, has offered to match, dollar for dollar, up to three $4,200 housing scholarships raised by alumni and friends. With your help, we could raise a record $25,200 and send six students to DC!

We met our first match last week and are officially sending two students to DC this summer. Will you help us send 6?

Thank you for helping students like Sharon have the chance to live and intern in DC- it truly changes lives.

Help Us Kick-Off the 3rd Annual WAIP Crowdfunding Campaign!

February 01, 2018

Buckeyes and Friends-

Last year, you did a phenomenal job helping raise funds to send four deserving John Glenn Fellows to Washington on full housing scholarship. Because of you, we helped four students get to DC for life-changing professional experiences. Learn more about what you did for Drew, Ella, Sharon and Elizabeth on this year’s page.

What if I told you we could send SIX students to DC on full housing scholarship this year?

For the third consecutive year, Dr. Mike Slater, former staffer to Senator Glenn, is offering a great opportunity to help meet our campaign goal. Dr. Slater has offered to match, dollar for dollar, up to three $4,200 housing scholarships raised by alumni and friends. With your help, we could raise a record $25,200 and send six (6) Glenn Fellows to Washington, D.C.!

Here's the deal- if we reach this year's goal of raising $12,600, our very generous former staff member of Senator Glenn will DOUBLE OUR SCHOLARSHIP FUND. Help us send six students to Washington this summer. For the third year in a row, the WAIP program has received a record number of applications (over 70!) Buckeyes want to be in Washington so they can learn how to make a difference, and we have the chance to fund 6 students. Visit this year's campaign page today.

Again, thank you for your generosity. We are excited that with your help, we can make Washington a reality for students that may not otherwise have the opportunity.

Go Bucks!

Meet the Scholarship Recipients

May 14, 2017

Alumni and friends-

I write to you with so much gratitude for what you helped us accomplish- bringing four John Glenn Fellows to Washington on full housing scholarship!

Before the students left for DC, they made a short video expressing their thanks. Please take a look and meet the Fellows you helped get to DC.

The summer WAIP cohort moved to DC yesterday and they will begin their internships this week. We are excited to welcome another record-breaking cohort of 32 students- the most the program has hosted to date.

We look forward to updating you this summer on the students' progress!

Thank you, and Go Bucks!

Katy

WE DID IT!

March 02, 2017

Buckeyes and Friends,

WOW! Thanks to your generous support and contribution to the WAIP crowdfunding campaign this year, 4 Buckeyes will be awarded a full housing scholarship. That is no small feat- you should feel great about your part in making this happen!

We can't wait to keep you posted- we'll reach back out with more information about the students who receive the scholarships and their journey in Washington, DC this summer. We're excited to connect you to the students so you can continue to be part of WAIP in a very special and significant way!

Once again, from all of us at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs and WAIP, thank you. We are so proud of our WAIP supporters and are thankful for your generosity.

Go Bucks!

1 Day Left!

February 27, 2017

Buckeyes and Friends,

Tomorrow is it- our campaign to get students to DC this summer will come to a close.

We want to thank you for your generosity- we are so grateful for all you've done and for the incredible support you've shown WAIP and our students. We mean it- we can't do this without you.

We are entering the last day of the campaign- tomorrow (Tuesday), the campaign will come to a close at 11:59PM EST. We are so very close to our goal, and as you know, if we reach our goal, a very generous donor will double the fund, sending a total of 4 students on full housing scholarship!

Please- share your story just one more time about why you decided to give and why WAIP matters to you. We all have a WAIP story or reason for supporting young students' pursuit of a career in public service- tell that powerful story to your friends and family and help get us to the finish line.

Most importantly, thank you. We are so excited you decided to join this campaign and are moved by your support every day.

Go Bucks!

Katy

4 Days Left!

February 24, 2017

Buckeyes and Friends,

We have only 4 days left until the end of the campaign. We have done an amazing job- as of today, we only have $1,350 left to raise. We can do this.

Remember- if we reach our goal of $8,400 we get to send FOUR students. If we just raise the remaining $1,350, a very kind donor will double our fund. Please- share with your friends this weekend why this campaign matters to you and why you hope they'll give.

One of the scholarship recipients last summer, Tinae Bluitt, shared this reflection for those that gave to last year's campaign immediately following her DC summer:

I am still overwhelmed and my head is still spinning. It all went too fast and almost felt like a dream, but in a good way. On the ride back to Ohio, I couldn't help but reflect on how lucky I was to go through this summer. I tried to digest everything that happened this past summer in a few hours. I have never been challenged so much and had the time of my life all in just a few short months. I interned at a federal agency working to improve the access to a quality education, wrote a 20 paged policy paper on the school to prison pipeline focusing on Black males, sat in on a filibuster, took a tour of the White House West Wing, went to a National Convention for Black Journalists, met OSU alumni from all different walks of life, got close to 28 of my classmates, and still managed to have a good time and sight see.

Because of you, I was able to be exposed to a life I never knew existed. I was able to grow, learn, and be challenged every step of the way. I know what it means to be a true public servant. None of this was possible without you. I am truly grateful.

Together, we can make an experience like the one above happen for FOUR students.

Help us reach our goal- spread the word this weekend!

Katy

What if we could send FOUR students to DC on scholarship?

February 16, 2017

Buckeyes and Friends-

You have done a phenomenal job helping raise funds to meet our goal of two full housing scholarships for two deserving John Glenn Fellows this summer. Thanks to you, we have engaged nearly 90 donors and raised $5,675, which is 67% of our goal of $8,400. You are awesome!

What if I told you we could send 4 students to DC on full housing scholarship?

Thanks to a very generous former staff member of Senator Glenn, sending four students is not out of the question!

Here's the deal- if we reach our goal of raising $8,400, our very generous former staff member of Senator Glenn will DOUBLE OUR SCHOLARSHIP FUND. That's right- we'll send four students to DC on full scholarship this summer if we just achieve what we set out to do in the first place.

We are only $2,725 away. Let's make this happen- please encourage your fellow Buckeyes and friends to make a gift! Help us turn two scholarships into four!

Your gift can make incredible things happen for deserving Buckeyes- watch the video to learn more!

We can double our impact! Match challenge!

February 06, 2017

Alumni, friends and fellow Buckeyes-

Wow! We launched less than a week ago and are off to an incredible start; we are halfway to funding one of the housing scholarships and a quarter of the way to our final goal! This is so exciting!

I have more exciting news- we have the unique opportunity to double our impact- thanks to an anonymous donor, we have $1500 to match! That means that all gifts coming in today through February 15th will be matched. Let's turn that $1500 into $3000!

Make your gift and know you are doubling your impact!

To those of you that have given already, thank you for your generosity. Please- share your story of WAIP with your friends and fellow Buckeyes, encouraging them to pay it forward as you have. Help us reach our match challenge!

What we accomplished last year

February 01, 2017

“WAIP's housing scholarship was truly a blessing. Just a few days before I learned that I was selected to receive fully funded housing I had a conversation with my mother, who said she could not afford to help me financially this summer and that I may have to reject the fellowship offer. I still remember getting the phone call from Katy and almost bursting in to tears of joy. This scholarship means the world to me because it allowed me to participate in this excellent program. I can't thank you all enough for your kind donations and choosing to invest in me. This summer program is not only enhancing my professional development, but it's also changing my life." –Tinae Bluitt, John Glenn Fellow Summer 2016, and full housing scholarship recipient

….because of the generosity of alumni and friends of WAIP last year, Tinae and two other students were able to participate in a life changing summer through WAIP in Washington, DC. Because of alumni and friends like you, Tinae was able to take real steps toward achieving her career goals, network with alumni and grow immensely while living in Washington for the summer.

Join us again this year as we launch our campaign to crowdfund two full housing scholarships that will be awarded to financially needy and deserving Glenn Fellows to participate in WAIP summer 2017.

We received over 60 applications for WAIP summer 2017. We are excited to learn so many students are eager to move to Washington and begin to develop their careers in public service, but we need your help to get them here.

Please- consider making a gift today. To learn more about Tinae and last year’s recipients, meet them in their new video and hear more about what the scholarship meant to them-
