College of Medicine: Class of 1999

Leaving a Legacy from the Class of 1999

Dear Classmates,

I am excited to be reaching out to you today to share that our class has been invited to leave a legacy at the Ohio State College of Medicine as a way to celebrate our milestone reunion.

The Ohio State College of Medicine is getting a new home in the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center (IHSC), in a reimagined and expanded Hamilton Hall. This is where the next generation of Buckeye physicians will be trained. The new facilities will allow Ohio State medical students to continue to be some of the best and brightest – by having flexible classroom spaces, areas for students to focus on self-care and mental health, and access to modern technology needed to be at the forefront of innovation in medical education. I invite you to learn more about this project

Our legacy at the Ohio State College of Medicine will be to name a study space in the new building in memory of Dr. John Stang. This room will be used by students at the College of Medicine to come together for projects, research, studying for exams - anything can happen in this space that will continue to build on the tradition of excellence at the College of Medicine. Our goal is to raise $75,000 in support of this project. I am hoping you will be a part of this in any way that you are able.

I have so many fond memories of Dr. Stang. His energy was contagious, and his impact was immeasurable. His love of teaching (and all of us) was unmistakable, and he dedicated himself tirelessly to supporting us as we became the best physicians that we could be. I think this study space in the new IHSC is the perfect way to honor his memory and his dedication to all of us.

Our time at Ohio State's College of Medicine laid the foundation for the rest of our careers. I hope that you will join in and support this class initiative. It is important for us as alumni to support the College in their new home, and it is exciting to think that the Class of 1999 will be able to physically leave our mark here for generations of Buckeye physicians to come while memorializing Dr. Stang who played such an important role in our medical education.

Below are some thoughts from our committee on why they feel this initiative is important to them.

I am excited to donate toward the study room to honor Dr. Stang because he was the reason I was successful with my steps. He brought immeasurable energy and silly pneumonics that kept me going during those study marathons. He truly made studying fun and I have tried to emulate some of that energy in my medical teaching. – Teresa Holt

Dr. Stang was a pivotal mentor for me. I appreciated his energy, love of teaching, and caring nature. He really "saw" us as humans with our strengths and vulnerabilities and wanted the best for each of us. – Aphrodite Papadakis
