Hello, my name is Nigel Gore, and I am a proud recipient of the Morrill Scholarship at The Ohio State University. If you had asked me four years ago if I would ever write that sentence, I would tell you no––however, following my Interview with Donya Gibson, I knew that there was something special about The Morrill Scholarship Program (MSP). MSP not only made my experience at The Ohio State University possible, but also connected me with a community that values diversity, inclusion and social justice. Without MSP, I wouldn’t be here today, pursuing my passion for policy and business.
As someone who has experienced firsthand the power of MSP, I am deeply disheartened by efforts to diminish or eliminate programs like it. These initiatives are more than just financial aid or DEI initiatives; they are lifelines that enable students from diverse backgrounds to thrive and contribute to the university community. The thought of future students missing out on these opportunities is incredibly disappointing.
I am committed to doing everything in my power to support the Morrill Scholarship Program and ensure its legacy continues. By raising funds, I hope to give back to the program that has given me so much and to help future students achieve their dreams.
This is personal to me, and I am passionate about making sure others can benefit from the same opportunities that have shaped my Ohio State experience. Thank you for your support and for believing in the power of diversity.
