Hello! My name is Bethany Massenburg-Jackson. I am a senior electrical engineering major with an economics minor from Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

On campus, I participated in multiple community engagement and inclusion organizations. I served on e-boards for the African American Heritage Festival (45th, 46th & 47th years) and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Ohio State University Chapter. NSBE holds a special place in my heart because I joined in the 4th grade and discovered I wanted to study electrical engineering.

NSBE is an international organization whose mission is to, "Increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community." The Ohio State chapter in collaboration with the Community, Access, Retention and Empowerment (C.A.R.E) Office embodies these goals. NSBE supports students through professional and academic development. As of the Autumn 2023 semester, 6.4% of the College of Engineering enrolled students identify as Black or African American. NSBE helps students establish a community of peers focused on academic achievement and community engagement. As a result, students grow socially and professionally through its on-campus resources and annual conventions.

As a member of NSBE, I served as the Secretary (2022) and Pre-College Initiative (PCI) Chair (2021). As an e-board member, I saw first-hand the value NSBE provides to students and university partners. As PCI Chair, I planned our annual STEM Challenge in collaboration with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and the CARE office. Over 40 Columbus City Public School System (CCS) high school students attended. Our outreach consists of experiments, panels and mentorship encouraging the pursuit of engineering as a career path. NSBE funds contribute to Ohio State student success, wellness and enrichment. NSBE develops community-minded engineers enhancing the world around them. Together, we can continue bettering students and the Columbus community. I encourage you to make a gift so that we can develop and support the future of engineering.
