In October 2024, we awarded 9 students professional association memberships at a variety of associations, including the American Public Health Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Statistical Association and more. Alumni members of our society board review every application to determine who will best utilize these resources.
While we only gave out professional association memberships this year, we are hoping to expand our offerings next year to give out funds for travel to conferences as well. We are so grateful to the alumni community who helps make this opportunity possible. Thank you for your support in our work!
Hear more from our past student recipients on the impact of these funds:
“Being a member of professional associations has helped me to connect with fellow researchers working on similar topics and to get engaged in research discussions and career sessions. It also has given me a sense of belonging into a wider community of “public health in action” where researchers, policy makers and government officials come together in exchanging one’s knowledge and experiences to address public health problems. The memberships have also encouraged me to attend annual meetings, present my research (I have presented in APHA annual meeting the last two consecutive years), gather feedback and to further progress my research into research papers.” - Balaji, APHA
“As a member of SRNT (Society For Research On Nicotine & Tobacco), I will be able to access interest-specific journals, network with professionals across the world, share my research, and keep up-to-date with the ever-changing tobacco research landscape. I am excited to grow as a trainee and a professional in the tobacco research space and membership to SRNT plays an important role in my development.” - Hayley, Society for Research on Nicotine & Tobacco
“A professional membership aligns perfectly with my academic and career goals as a Ph.D. candidate in Epidemiology. It offers me a platform for continuous learning, networking, and skill development that will not only enrich my academic experience but also position me for success as a young professional in public health. I am excited about the potential benefits it can bring to my academic and career journey.” - Yun, Society for Social Work and Research
