Through innovation in education, research, outreach and service, The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine is creating a healthy and sustainable world for
animals and people. The college is a national and global leader in veterinary and comparative medicine and research, and is training the next generation of veterinarians who will lead the field of veterinary medicine alongside over 8,500 alumni who are practicing in all 50 states and 40 countries.
The College of Veterinary Medicine has a goal of eliminating one year of tuition for every veterinary student through scholarships. A student interested in working in a rural area as a large animal or equine veterinarian may choose to switch career paths to an urban small animal practice due to their large debt load, as the higher future earnings in urban small animal practice will allow them to pay down debt more quickly. Less debt means those interested in pursuing veterinary medicine in rural areas will have more career options, which helps reduce the workforce shortage in farm animal, equine and mixed animal practices.
