Join me in supporting Ohio State's alternative break program, Buck-I-SERV.

Hello, everyone! My name is Emma Guess, and I am a senior majoring in Biomedical Science with a minor in Medical Humanities at The Ohio State University. I’ve always wanted to be a Buckeye, but I never could have imagined the impact I would be able to make while here. Growing up in Columbus, I witnessed the challenges many of our neighborhoods face that affect people’s daily lives. These experiences inspired me to give back to the community that raised me and to extend my efforts across the country and around the world.

Through Buck-I-SERV, Ohio State’s alternative break program, I’ve had the privilege to do exactly that. One of my most meaningful experiences was traveling to Antigua, Guatemala, where I partnered with ConstruCasa to help build a home for a local family. Beyond mixing cement and laying bricks, I learned their stories, shared in their culture, and discovered that many of the challenges they face mirror those in Columbus. What makes Buck-I-SERV so special is that it isn’t about offering handouts - it’s about offering a hand up by supporting communities with the resources and solutions they identify as most impactful for their well-being and futures.

By supporting this cause, you directly contribute to Buck-I-SERV, ensuring that every Ohio State student has the opportunity to participate in these transformative service experiences. A portion of your gift will also go directly to ConstruCasa, continuing to provide stable housing for families in Guatemala. Your generosity will empower students to engage with communities, build empathy, and carry forward the values of service and leadership that define this institution. Together, we can make a lasting difference - both here in Columbus and around the world!
