Military Community Advocates Support
There are 2,300+ Buckeye Military Community Members enrolled at Ohio State. Transitioning from military to student life can be a significant change. Many veterans face challenges that are far different from traditional students as they continue their service. The Military Community Advocate (MCA) Program bridges veterans to resources that ensure academic and professional success.
This program is open to members of the Buckeye Military Community, including active-duty, guard, reserve, veterans, ROTC members, and military dependents. Our advocates are scholarship recipients that serve in 35+ areas across main and branch campuses.
Advocate Details
- Our advocates are scholarship recipients that serve in 35+ areas across main and branch campuses. Training is provided to each of our advocates prior to autumn semester, including REACH suicide prevention.
- Advocates work in a host office that serves and interacts with veterans on a regular basis. These offices can be a college/academic unit or a student support office within the university, and have a dedicated office lead that provides mentorship, guidance, and leadership opportunities to the student MCA.
- Advocates typically meet a couple times per semester as a group to update and learn from other MCAs in their respective roles.

B.A. in Criminology
Elizabeth joined the Navy as a Master-at-Arms at 23 after graduating from the University of South Florida. She served active duty in Guam, San Diego, and Romania, before switching to reserve in 2021. By 2022, she started her second academic journey here at The Ohio State University. She holds an internship with our Military and Veterans office, is secretary of Logistics and Operations with the Student Veterans Association and is on Mortar Board. Her experience here and abroad gives her a unique position to be an encouraging advocate.
Elizabeth appreciates that being an MCA allows her “to connect with various military-connected students, whether they are ROTC students, children of military officers, veterans, or reserved like me.”
She specifically enjoys the MCA program initiative that allows her to organize personalized, creative group activities. She thinks it is a great way for people to connect outside of MVS and form a deeper community.
“The Military & Veterans Services team here has great leaders providing excellent opportunities and resources through this program. They truly care about connecting students across all experiences.”
