Kristoffer Sowell Toney

I serve as a Buck-I-Serv Board Member on the Leadership Committee, where I support the development of student leaders and help strengthen the impact of Buck-I-Serv service trips. I have participated in one Buck-I-Serv service trip and will be taking my second trip this upcoming spring.

During my first Buck-I-Serv trip, I was a recipient of the Travel Assistance Fund, which made my participation possible. That support removed a significant financial barrier and allowed me to fully engage in a service experience that was truly transformative. Because of that assistance, I was able to give back to the community in a way that is difficult to put into words and deeply meaningful to me.

Through my role on the Leadership Committee, I have contributed to leader trainings and helped plan trips such as FOCUS: HOPE in Detroit, Michigan, while also working on the upcoming trip to Frontier Housing in Kentucky. Buck-I-Serv has helped me grow as a leader while supporting meaningful, community-centered service.

By supporting Buck-I-Serv, you help remove barriers to service and empower students to engage in meaningful, community-driven work that creates lasting impact.

About Buck-I-SERV

Buck-I-SERV is The Ohio State University’s Alternative Break Program, housed within the Office of Student Life’s Leadership and Community Engagement department. What began as a single student-led trip in 2003 has grown into a nationally recognized program that has facilitated more than 1,000 service experiences across 30 states and 14 countries in partnership with over 150 community organizations. Through immersive, community-centered service trips, Buck-I-SERV provides students with opportunities to learn, lead, reflect, and deepen their understanding of social justice issues- from environmental conservation to housing access, youth support, and more.

Your gift directly opens the door for more students to experience these transformational trips. By supporting the Buck-I-SERV program, you help reduce financial barriers that may otherwise prevent students from participating. Donor contributions strengthen our Student Access Fund and help subsidize overall trip costs, making programs more affordable and accessible.

Every donation, no matter the size, supports students’ ability to engage in meaningful service-learning, build lasting community partnerships, and carry a lifelong commitment to service back to campus and beyond.
