Our 85 for 85 scholarship campaign is going strong.  We have much to be thankful for as this holiday season gets underway. Thank You to all of the Stadium Alums and friends for supporting the future students of our program. In the past two weeks the SSP, Stadium Scholarship Program, students hosted a Thanksgiving dinner and last week six alums and six students enjoyed an evening of food and conversation at the Dinner for 12 Buckeyes event at the OSU Alumni House.  These are just a few of the opportunities alumni are able to support and join with the current students in the program.  Your donations are keeping students involved in their college experience by reducing the financial stress through scholarships.

We have 16 days left in this campaign and the SSAS Board is thrilled to have over 60 donors to date.  We know we can reach the 85 contributions and more.  Challenge your friends who lived in your unit while living in the Stadium, Mack Hall or the Scholar Houses.  Most of us have lifelong friends who lived with us in the program and that is our strongest connection to Ohio State.  Let them know that Stadium Scholarship program is going strong and celebrating 85 years of Success!!

     We are just 12 days into our Buckeye fundraiser to celebrate the 85th Anniversary year of the Stadium Program and we already have met half of our goal with 45 donors to the Stadium Scholarship Fund.  THANK YOU to all of the folks who have supported the Stadium Scholarship Program and its Alumni Society.  Keep getting out the word to your fellow college roommates and friends.  Your support shows that the Stadium Program was as important to you as it is to the current students.  There are approximately 96 residents in the two Scholar Houses on West 10th Ave that call the Stadium Program their home.  As part of the Stadium Scholarship Alumni Society Board, I have had the privilege to meet, and work with many of the talented students.  They have many similar stories like Stadium alums that the financial break of the Stadium Program is what is allowing them to attend college. These students continue the “cooperative spirit” by developing and  participating in programs both at the Scholars Houses and across the OSU campus. Your donations to the scholarship fund is allowing us as an OSU Alumni Society to create even more opportunities to help these students succeed.

     When I was a resident back in the early 80’s, I wasn’t really aware that we had an Alumni group and that there were scholarships for current residents.  It started out small but even then, at least one scholarship was awarded every year.  The Stadium Scholarship Alumni Society continues to award scholarships each year and some of you may have been the recipient of past awards.  You might recognize someone in the photos from past award programs at the Stadium Dorm and Mack Hall.  This past April, I was able to be part of the interview and selection process for our current set of Stadium Scholarship Award winners.  We had over 25 students apply which is a fourth of the dorm, and after interviews we were able to award 10 students with $2000 or $3000 Scholarships.  For some of those students it meant coming back to college for this school year and less financial burden on themselves or family. The Stadium Scholarship Alumni Society would like to grow the amount of scholarships we can give to residents of the program.  

    Share the news of the Stadium Scholarship fundraiser with your friends that you made when you were part of the Stadium Dorm or the Stadium Program at Mack Hall or Scholar Houses. Let them know that the Stadium Scholarship Program is alive and well at Ohio State.  You know we are doing something right, to be a Dormitory Program that has been on campus for 85 years and the only OSU Dorm to have an Alumni Society!
