Women's Glee Club Sings Their Way to St. Louis

The Women’s Glee Club at The Ohio State University was established in 1903. The group of roughly 60 music-loving students strives to connect and empower women through music-making and sisterhood by challenging them to find their own voices. Comprised of a variety of majors and interests with singers ranging from freshmen to graduate students, WGC sets an example to the university of what it truly means to bond and be a part of team. Members continually work to expand musicianship through challenging and varied repertoire.

For the 2017-18 academic year, WGC will be working toward a performance that brings to light the vast differences of empowerment and education of women across the globe and specifically in places of poverty. This mission is inspired by the book Half the Sky, written by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, which discusses how the education of women can fight to eradicate poverty. Joining the efforts of the Half the Sky Movement, the Women’s Glee Club calls all individuals to take action in educating themselves as well as supporting the advancement of women in poverty to gain a necessary education to survive. For more information on this year's mission and our recent activities, check out the Fall 2017 issue our newsletter, The Medley.

To promote their message of awareness,The Women’s Glee Club will hold a spring concept with musical selections that focus on the importance of education and equality for all. Additionally, their spring tour in which they will travel to St. Louis, Missouri offers the opportunity for them to spread their message even further as they will stop at various high schools and university campuses sharing their message to a larger student body. In doing so, they hope to emphasize the importance of female education and encourage young singers and students alike to continue their paths to success.
