Starting in 1953, a contract program existed between the state of West Virginia and the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine that reserved about 4 or 5 seats in each year’s class for West Virginia students and allowed them to pay in-state tuition for their first year of veterinary school. However, contract program ended in 2008.
During the years of the in-state tuition contract, just over 250 West Virginian students were able to receive their veterinary degree from The Ohio State University.
The lack of available seats for West Virginia residents wishing to pursue a veterinary medicine degree has led to a lack of veterinarians practicing in West Virginia. There are currently 5 counties in the state without a practicing veterinarian. Give $100 for each county in West Virginia without a practicing veterinarian.
Many West Virginia veterinary alumni have pledged $1,000 a year for this scholarship. Join them at this level.
At this level, you can support a veterinary student from West Virginia's books and veterinary supplies necessary for their education for one year.
