Greeting Buckeye Polo Fans! As our fundraiser comes to a close, we have one final update, along with a big final push to get us closer to our goal. We want to start by saying thank you to all of the people who have donated and supported our team throughout this season; your impact goes much farther than you know and every contribution gives the team more opportunities to travel, buy new equipment, and host tournaments.
This past weekend the Buckeyes traveled to Purdue where they battled it out in the Big 10 Championships. On Saturday, we were able to beat Indiana (14-6) and Wisconsin (17-13), putting us in the Big 10 Championship game on Sunday against Michigan State. The Bucks have come up against MSU a couple times throughout the season and had struggled against them, but felt confident entering the game. The Buckeyes came out of the gate hot, winning the first quarter 4-3, however, MSU's bench was simply much deeper. After a hard fought battle and a heart breaking ending, Ohio State fell to Michigan State 10-13, ending our season.
The team is proud of what we were able to accomplish in our first year in the Big 10, and know that the move to a new conference will be good for the team in the long run, even if it did not pan out this year. We want to sincerely thank all of you for following us on this journey. As there are only 4 days left in the fundraiser, we would like to ask that everyone share our page with any friends, family members, or OSU fans that would be interested in hearing our story or supporting us.
Check out some pictures from the tournament below, don't forget to share our page in these last few days, and Go Bucks!
Greetings Buckeye fans! This is a huge week for the team as we prepare for the Big 10 Championship tournament this weekend (11/2-11/3) at Purdue! After a weekend off, the Bucks are feeling well rested and ready to go. This week at practice, we will focus on walking through our offense, shapening our defense, and honing our skill work. Our first game of the tournament will be against Indiana University at 1:00 PM on Saturday, with the rest of the games being determined by the result. Last time we faced up against IU, OSU prevailed 17-5, but we are not taking any wins for granted this weekend! If there is a link to a stream for watching the games this weekend, I will post it in an update later this week, so check back and share with other Buckeye Polo fans!
We are continuing our spotlights with an interview with 3rd year transfer student Lance Bockbrader!
Welcome back Buckeye Polo fans! This past weekend the team traveled to Indiana University where they went 4-0, beating some of the B10 West's toughest opponents. In our first game of the weekend, the Bucks prevailed 17-5 over Indiana, with Drew "Larry" Wilson turning up his offense to score 6 goals. The next game was supposed to be against Iowa, however due to their last minute withdrawl, they were replaced with an exhibition squad made up of a few players from each of the teams. OSU deafeated this B10 All-Star team 20-3! The Bucks started off Sunday with a 10-8 win over Wisconsin, who was 4-0 prior to the tournament, with freshman Jason Merkel putting away 4 solid goals. In our final game, we defeated Illinois 12-7, with Lance Bockbrader leading the pack with 6 goals. Overall the Bucks were happy with their wins, but now have an even better idea of what we need to work on as we prepare over the next two weeks for B10 Champs on November 2-3.
This week we will continue our spotlight series with a video on 3rd year Harison Bhanoo!
The Buckeyes had a grueling weekend of Water Polo this weekend at the East Conference Qualifier in East Lansing. The team played 4 games, going 3-1 on the weekend. We started off with a nailbiting game against Michigan State, losing 12-13 in OT. MSU is a tough opponent and they will be the team to beat at B10 Champs in early November! Later that day, the Bucks beat MSU's B team 8-3; they were stepping in for Michigan who unfortunately had to miss the tournament due to a team illness. The next day we played Purdue and Northwestern with convincing 16-6 and 12-3 victories respectively. Overall, the team was happy with the weekend, as we had the opportunity to give all 18 of our players pool time and we learned what we need to work on for the next tournament. The West Conference Qualifier will be next weekend (10/19-10/20) at Indiana University and we will take on Indiana University, Wisconson, Iowa, and University of Illinois! Come back next week to see the results!
Starting this week we will also be doing video spotlights of different players to hear about their Ohio State Water Polo story! This weeks spotlight is on 3rd year Drew "Larry" Wilson!
Hello friends, family, and Buckeye Water Polo Fans!!
This week is a big week for the team, as we have our first CWPA Conference tournament this weekend (10/12-10/13)! At practice the next few days we will focus on developing in game skills, working as a team, and fine tuning our conditioning. The tournament will be hosted by Michigan State in East Lansing and the Buckeyes will take on the following opponents:
A few weekends ago (9/21-9/22), the Buckeyes brought two teams to East Lansing for a pre-season tournament where the Scarlet team, the team that will travel for CWPA Conference tournaments, played Michigan, Michigan State, MSU Alumni, and Wolverine. They triumphed over Michigan 12-9 in their very first game and beat the MSU Alumni 13-12 later that day, but suffered a tough loss to Michigan State 6-13 in their final game of the day. The Gray team went 1-3 on the weekend with an impressive 7-6 victory over MSU B in a nailbiting game.
Come back next week to find out if the Buckeyes can defeat their rivals once again and triumph over MSU in their first official tournament of the season.
Thank you for your support and go bucks!
