Awakening Student Organization Fundraiser

Aliyah Burton, a student at Ohio State Mansfield, noticed something missing in her college life. She realized that all students on campus were on their way to the next step in their life. Whether that next step is the main campus in Columbus or a workplace at a new job, she recognized how easy it was for herself, and other students, to “bypass [the college experience] like it’s meaningless.” Attempting to avoid the cycle of “just trying to get through school,” Aliyah says, “[Awakening] was a good way to get plugged into a community that I didn’t realize I needed until I got into it. I was like oh man, you were missing this. I wasn’t at a church at the time, and God really met that need through Awakening.” Now Aliyah is the student leader of Awakening on Campus (AOC). 

Awakening's vision is to provide an environment in which students may find personal, professional and spiritual satisfaction. With community at its heart, Awakening offers a place to belong for our Buckeyes.

Feeling connected is such an important aspect of college life. The transition from high school to college is hard for many students. It can feel lonely, uncomfortable and overwhelming at times. According to the American Psychological Association, “Students who feel connected to their school are more likely to have better academic achievement.” Awakening allows students to network with their peers, go on retreats, serve within the community and most importantly, find a sense of belonging. They offer a unique understanding and empathetic student organization and eagerly welcome all students.

AOC hosts monthly worship nights and weekly Bible studies in the Scarlet and Grey Cafe. However, they need additional funds to continue providing social activities and retreat opportunities for Ohio State Mansfield students. Some of these social events include Capture the Flag nights, game nights, free pizza and coffee during finals, and dance parties. In the past, Awakening hosted a pizza luncheon with Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel and has been able to host weekly physical activities, like intramural volleyball matches, in partnership with local churches. AOC also has offered its students a chance to travel to different nation-wide events such as a Christmas concert in Indianapolis. 

By financially supporting Awakening, you will provide special opportunities for our students to make long-lasting friendships and memories while attending The Ohio State Mansfield campus. Our goal is to raise $2,000 in one month. These funds will greatly assist Awakening not only in their ability to reach students who are longing for a sense of belonging, but also in their capability to provide student members with priceless spiritual experiences.
