As a Buckeye Veterinarian and a valued member of our alumni community, you understand the power of our collective efforts in shaping the future of the College of Veterinary Medicine and the veterinary profession. Today, we are thrilled to share an incredible opportunity for you to make an even greater impact.
 
From now until the end of the year, your gift to The Veterinary Medicine Class of 1979 Scholarship Fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Dr. Kathi Heiber, up to $5,000. This fund is so important to Dr. Heiber that she is committed to helping it reach the $100,000 milestone. Your support will go twice as far in helping the class achieve its goal and provide scholarships to future students.
 

Dear Class of 1979,

I hope this message finds you well! In 2020, our class embarked on a mission to leave a meaningful legacy with the College of Veterinary Medicine through creating an endowed class scholarship that would benefit students in perpetuity. To achieve this, we must reach a minimum balance of $100,000 by April 30, 2026. This will allow us to distribute approximately $4,500 annually (4.5% of the principal) in scholarships. As of now, our collective efforts have raised $47,320, leaving us with two more years to secure the remaining funds. I am confident that together, we can achieve this milestone.

Once fully endowed, our scholarship will benefit third and fourth-year students pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree within the College of Veterinary Medicine. It’s a powerful way to invest in the next generation of veterinary professionals.

This year also marks an exciting milestone- our class's 45th reunion. In addition to homecoming in the fall, I want to invite you to participate in the college’s Reunion Challenge. The Reunion Challenge, running now through December 31, 2024, invites all classes between 1974 and 2014 who are celebrating a reunion to participate in this friendly competition. This challenge is all about participation! The class with the highest percentage of classmates donating back to the college will be crowned this year’s champion. Your support matters. A gift, of any size, can play a pivotal role in helping your class win. Choose any fund at the college that resonates with you, and let’s make this reunion unforgettable! Currently, 23% of our class has contributed to the scholarship fund and 66% have given back to the college. Let’s aim higher! In honor of our class year, wouldn’t it be wonderful to increase that participation rate to 79%. This goal will help us push forward in the challenge. Your generosity will leave a lasting impact on the lives of students at our beloved college.
