To those of you that donned the Scarlet and Gray, you know what Jim and Bev Montrella meant to you and especially the Ohio State Women’s Swimming and Diving program. We also know how much this program meant to his family. Jim’s love for his family and dedication to this program were displayed at every waking moment throughout his career. As some of you may know, Jim and Bev’s daughter was taken from us all a short while ago and we want to make sure his family’s legacy is remembered within our program forever.
Jim claimed five consecutive conference championships from 1982-1986. Jim coached his athletes to thirty-nine individual titles, sixty-six Big Ten individual championships, including four straight gold place finishes in the 400 yard medley relay and two Ohio State Athletes of the year honors. During his career, he witnessed forty-eight All-Americans, fifty Academic All-Big Ten honorees, five Big Ten swimmers of the year, one NCAA Championship, one AIAW National Championship and garnered two selections as the Big Ten coach of the year in 1985 and 1991.
Jim and Bev and their family have done a remarkable job to help build Ohio State Women’s Swimming and Diving program to where it is today and that’s why we would like to ask for your support in establishing the Montrella Family Legacy Fund. This fund will be designed to continue the tradition of providing our current and future teams with the resources they need to be successful women in and out of the pool.
