Jordan Harkins, senior marketing major, received the Daniel G. Amstutz International Studies Scholarship for her Fisher Industry Immersion Global Lab summer 2022 program that explored four cities in Italy and visited six separate companies.
“With this scholarship, I didn’t have to focus on the financial aspects of the trip – I could fully embrace the culture, language and people to get the most out of this experience,” remarked Harkins on the impact of the scholarship.
Harkins knew she wanted to experience global education ever since coming to Ohio State and chose the Fisher Industry Immersion Global Lab because she knew it was the right fit.
After the program, Harkins reflected on the importance of this experience in shaping her academic experience.
“Academically, I now have a large interest in continuing to study Italian formally in order to speak it proficiently,” Harkins said. “Personally, I plan to return to Italy to explore more of the country. Professionally, I’ve been exposed to a variety of different work cultures that I’ve never seen before.”
Juhi Rai, sophomore marketing major, received the Jutta and Peter Neckermann Study Abroad Scholarship for her Freshman Global Lab program in Hamburg, Germany, during summer 2022.
The Jutta and Peter Neckermann Study Abroad Scholarship Fund ranging from $500 to $1,000 has provided scholarships for Ohio State students studying abroad in Germany since 1998.
“With the help of scholarships, I’ve had the international experience I’ve always wanted,” said Rai on the impact of receiving the scholarship. “It was nice knowing that I didn’t have to feel burdened about paying a lot out of pocket, and that I could enjoy my time in Germany.”

A first-generation college student, ODI Scholar and international studies major, Alanna Strickland studied abroad on the Genocide and Its Aftermath in Rwanda program in summer 2022 with support from The Boshara-Iannotti Family Scholarship for Young Scholars Studying Abroad and the Keith and Linda Monda International Experiences Scholarship.
"The fact that I am an international studies major who had never even left the country seemed a little odd and traveling to a different country seemed like the only thing that could prepare me for my career goals," Alanna reflected. "I am also one of the only people in my family who has had the opportunity to experience something like this and not being doing it would have been too huge of a missed opportunity. This study abroad to Rwanda has made me realize how much I want to work on the continent of Africa and has pushed my passionate to provide clean water and clean food across the world."
