Data Science Summer Camp for All

Although our giving page is no longer active, you can still donate. If you would like to provide any additional support, please make a gift here.

The Translational Data Analytics Institute hosts a free summer day camp designed for students in rising grades 7, 8 and 9 to explore data science and analytics. It’s an exciting, fast-growing field centered on scientific methods and processes for extracting new knowledge from data. Students who learn these skills can combine them with an unimaginably wide range of interests, from business and biology to health care and education, to city planning and social services. Over the course of five days in the summer, campers will:

  • Work in student teams and with mentors to develop analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Learn from scientists and students across the data spectrum
  • Discuss gender, race and cultural biases (in data and in our community)
  • Explore educational and career opportunities in data science and analytics

Middle school is a critical age to reach students because they're starting to think more about their futures and looking toward their high school careers. This is the 6th summer for our camp, but only the third summer in-person. Our participants come from a variety of school districts in the Greater Columbus area.

Your support helps us continue to provide this summer STEM experience at no cost to participants. Some of the costs you'll help offset with your gift include pay for student workers, food and beverages for participants, transportation, fees for activities and the supplies needed for the participants to engage in their group work and end of camp presentations.

Throughout this campaign we will share stories from previous participants and our session leaders. We'll also share some of the experiences planned for this year's participants.
