2023 Dean's Charity Steer Show Event Details:

  • Date: Tuesday, August 1, 2023
  • Time: 2:00 p.m.
  • Location: Voinovich Livestock & Trade Center at the Ohio Expo Center & State Fair

Celebrate Ohio agriculture, communities and children at the 2023 Dean’s Charity Steer Show. Teams will consist of a Team Captain, Team Champion, experienced 4-H youth and a steer in the show ring. The event will be hosted by Cathann A. Kress, vice president and dean of The Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). All proceeds will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio. The Steer Show is coordinated by CFAES, Ohio Cattlemen’s Association, Telhio Credit Union and the Ohio State Fair.


Team Bios:

Paige Gehret, the daughter of Gary and Jill Gehret, lives on a small farm in Yorkshire, Ohio in Darke County. She has two older siblings and will be a sophomore at Versailles High School this fall. Paige is active in student council, Hope Squad (suicide prevention), Spanish Club and a track athlete, as well as being the historian in FFA, participating in livestock judging and job interview career development events. Paige exhibits both beef and market sheep through FFA and 4-H at the county, state and national levels. She is currently the treasurer of the Darke County 4-H Beef Club and is a representative of the Darke County Jr. Fairboard for the beef department. When she is not working with her animals in the barn, she can be found working on her Supervised Agriculture Experience in FFA, a 1-acre pumpkin patch and store, “Paige’s Patch”, raising and selling pumpkins, gourds, popcorn and sweet corn that she retails in the summer and fall seasons. Paige will have her steer “Tanner” with her in the ring at the Dean’s Charity Steer Show.

Cy Prettyman of New Bloomington was elected First Vice President of Ohio Farm Bureau Federation in April 2021. He has served as District 7 trustee for the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation since 2012, representing members from Crawford, Marion, Morrow and Richland counties. Prettyman farms with his family, raising corn, soybeans and has a direct-to-consumer beef enterprise. In addition, he has an over 30-year agricultural career serving members in Ohio’s cooperative system. He has a bachelor’s degree in animal sciences from The Ohio State University and has been active with local and state Pork Producers Councils and Ohio Cattlemen’s Association.
