Teams will consist of a Team Captain, Team Champion, experienced 4-H youth and a steer in the show ring. The event will be hosted by Cathann A. Kress, vice president and dean of The Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). All proceeds will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio. The Steer Show is coordinated by CFAES, Ohio Cattlemen’s Association, Telhio Credit Union and the Ohio State Fair. Team Bios: Connor Yochum is from Hillsboro, Ohio in Highland County where he lives on a farm with his parents, Chip and Shannon, and older sister, Emma. His family raises Maine-Anjou and Chianina cattle along with soybeans and hay. Connor will be in the eighth grade at Hillsboro Middle School this fall where he is a three-sport athlete playing football, wrestling and baseball. He is also active in the National Junior Honor Society and FFA. Connor is an 8-year 4-H member who has been showing cattle since he was 4 years old and exhibiting them in 7 states so far. He will be showing his steer, “Joe Burrow”, at the Dean’s Charity Steer Show. Matt Barnes is the morning co-anchor of NBC4 Today, a position he took in January 2016. He joined the NBC4 staff in May 2010 as a sports anchor and reporter. He is a proud graduate from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. As a native of Columbus, being out and about in the community is very important to him. He is an avid volunteer and supporter of the Ronald McDonald House in Columbus, serving on the board and as a member of the Red Shoe Society. Monica Day co-anchors NBC4 Today. She joined the NBC4 staff in February of 2006. Monica is a graduate of Whitehall Yearling High School. She was crowned Miss Ohio USA 2008 and represented The Buckeye State in the Miss USA competition where she won the title of Miss Congeniality. The thing Monica likes most about her job is the opportunity to be involved with local charities and events. Monica has been very active in raising awareness of ovarian cancer during her time at NBC4 and is an avid supporter of The Ronald McDonald House, BESA and Harmony Project. Meteorologist, McKenna King, joined the NBC4 team in January 2022. McKenna grew up in Northern Utah and earned her degree in broadcast journalism from Brigham Young University. A Utah native, McKenna loves the outdoors. She loves to ski and snowboard, as well as getting outside for a bike ride, hike or take her golden retriever, Polly, on a walk around the city. McKenna is also a proud Disney-adult and Magic Keyholder at both U.S. Disney parks, which is where she spends most of her vacation time, donning a pair of Mickey ears. Kristine Varkony first joined the NBC4 team in early 2017. She is a multifaceted journalist who equally loves anchoring, producing, covering Ohio State football, live interviews and breaking news. A Buckeye from day one, Kristine was raised on a farm in the Ohio Valley (Jefferson County) and attended Steubenville Catholic Schools. She earned her degree in journalism from The Ohio State University— while interning at NBC4 her senior year. Kristine loves exploring and attending events in the Cap City, being outdoors, traveling, exercise classes and trying new restaurants.

Emily is a recent high school graduate and will be attending Kent State University this coming fall. She has shown cattle, pigs and goats at the Portage County Fair and is a member of the Portage County Steakmakers 4-H Club, National Honors Society and Student Council. This is the first year she is exhibiting a steer at the Ohio State Fair. She will have her steer, “Cosmo”, by her side at the 2023 Dean’s Charity Steer Show. After 14 years at L Brands where she was Chief Communications Officer, Tammy Roberts Myers founded SS Resolution LLC, a reputation management and crisis communications firm that empowers companies to navigate the toughest situations with the utmost dignity. She was recruited back to the new standalone public company, Bath & Body Works, to lead external communications. She is a passionate community advocate as demonstrated through non-profit leadership, fundraising and connecting interested parties to maximize impact. She serves on the Central Ohio boards of Ronald McDonald House Charities, COSI and Ruling Our eXperiences and is a member of the Otterbein University Alumni Council. Kimberly Flaherty currently serves as Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Relations for wpg (Washington Prime Group®), a retail real estate investment trust that owns and operates a multibillion-dollar portfolio across the U.S. welcoming over 300 million annual shoppers. She is also the co-founder of Post House Creative, an award-winning full-service marketing agency specializing in brand strategy, creative content, video production, digital marketing, public relations and media buying with locations in Columbus, Ohio, Austin, Texas and Steamboat Springs, Colorado servicing clients such as Nationwide Insurance, the Columbus Blue Jackets, Jobs Ohio, AEP, Lane Bryant, Arhaus, The Ohio State University, Safelite Auto Glass and many more. Elizabeth is a member of the Little Buckeyes 4-H Club and enjoys working with her animals in the barn and hanging out with friends. After high school, Elizabeth hopes to go to college and major in chemistry or agriculture. At the Dean’s Charity Steer Show, she and her steer, “Maverick”, will take the ring. Greg Ubert founded Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea in Columbus, Ohio in 1991 which has been roasting award-winning coffee ever since. The Chicago Tribune named Crimson Cup “The most decorated coffee company in the Midwest” because of its significant trophy case. He sits on the Board of Directors at the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and Heartland Bank. He holds a B.A. in economics from Harvard University and resides in Upper Arlington with his wife, Laura and their three children.

He has one younger sister and will begin his senior year at Cardington Lincoln High School this fall. He is a member of FFA and the Grass Roots and Boots 4-H Club. Mason started his own beef operation when he was 9 years old, and now has a small herd of breeding cows. He has competed in beef shows all over the country and also enjoys helping his family grow and harvest hay. Mason is currently employed at Grain Equipment Co. Mason and his steer “Olson” will take on the Dean’s Charity Steer Show together. Rich Porrello leads Huntington’s Consumer Finance organization which includes its Auto, RV, Marine, Power Sports, Mortgage Lending and Direct Consumer Lending businesses. He oversees a team of 1,600 colleagues that serve more than a million consumers/households and businesses each year. Porrello serves on the board of directors and executive committee for the American Financial Services Association. He served as the 2019-20 Chair on the Consumer Banker Association Auto Finance Committee and is on the board of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio, Inc. Christina Brown has been with Huntington National Bank for the past 13 years and is currently the regional director of community philanthropy and engagement. She specializes in strategic leadership of community partnerships, grant programs, and colleague engagement with nonprofit organizations. Yolanda Harris co-anchors the 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts at WBNS-10TV with Andrew Kinsey. Before joining the team at 10TV, Harris was the early and late evening anchor at WSYX-6 and WTTE-Fox 28. She has more than 23 years of broadcasting experience in Central Ohio. She loves to volunteer and support local charities and organizations that work to improve the lives of Central Ohioans, especially young people. She especially enjoys working with DSACO and the Columbus Buddy Walk, the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” campaign and she has also served as an honorary board member for Buckeye Ranch.

Her family operates a grain operation of corn, soybeans, wheat and hay and also raises cattle and hogs. She is currently a sophomore at East Clinton High School where she is a member of the East Clinton FFA chapter, as well as a member of the volleyball and softball teams. Taylor is a member of the Final Drive 4-H Club and has shown many different livestock species since she was 8 years old including goats, lambs, pigs and dairy and beef cattle. She will be showing her crossbred steer, better known as “Mook”, in the Dean’s Charity Steer Show. Marshela McDaniel is currently the Field People Officer for McDonald’s Corporation in the Columbus Field Office. In her role, she co-develops and executes a vision for attracting, developing and retaining exceptional talent within her field organization where she partners with more than 1,220+ restaurants, 175+ owner-operator franchisee organizations and 90+ corporate staff. As the Field People Officer, she provides strategic direction and guidance around people initiatives and leads Owner Operators to directly impact business results, aligns with people initiatives, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to strengthen the McDonald’s system. Dan Aloi is currently the Strategic Alignment Manager for the Columbus Field Office. In his role he partners with the field office leadership to create the strategic vision. He is also responsible for the communication, alignment and execution of the plan with the 1220+ restaurants across the field office. He also supports the National Drive thru team to drive engagement between McDonald’s leadership and the restaurants across the country. Melissa James is currently the PMO Manager for the McDonald’s Corporation in the Columbus Field Office. In her role, she develops, plans and deploys initiatives, with an integrated end-to-end approach while coaching and partnering to reduce complexity. She provides strategic guidance to the field office and the Owner Operator community to maximize resources and results. Tara Vorst, born and raised in northwest Ohio, currently resides in Columbus where she is employed by McDonald’s Corporation as a Franchise Business Partner. Prior to joining McDonald’s, Tara worked for major national brands in the food and agriculture industry such as, Scotts Miracle Gro, SugarCreek Co-Packing Brandworthy Food Solutions, The Mennel Milling Company, and the Van Wert County Ohio State Extension Office.

Delany and her family own and operate Rockin’ C Show Cattle, raising and selling Hereford, Simmental and Maine-Anjou cattle. Delaney will be a junior at Clinton-Massie High School where she is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, and an officer in her FFA chapter. She also serves as the treasurer for the Ohio Buckeye Junior Hereford Association and is an active member in both the Hereford and Simmental breed associations. Delaney is a member of the Ultimate 4-H Club and will be showing her sidekick “Lloyd” in the Dean's Charity Steer Show. Kristin Bernert is in her second season as President of Business Operations for the Columbus Crew after joining the club in January 2022. Bernert directs all business endeavors for the Crew, including fan engagement and marketing; community partnerships and impact; game experience and facility management; ticket sales and services; corporate partnerships and overall revenue generation; and organizational administration. She has decades of experience in leadership roles in the sports and entertainment industry, encompassing the MLS, NBA, WNBA, NHL, NWSL and more. David Holmes is a sports reporter/anchor for 10TV. He attended Kent State University, became an anchor for ESPN at the young age of 21, then moved on to work for WTVG in Toledo for 8 years. Dave has won six Emmy awards and was honored eight times by the Associated Press as the best in Ohio.

Team Bios: Landyn Scheetz is the daughter of Doug and Kris Scheetz from Louisville, Ohio in Stark County. She has an older brother, and she is currently a junior at Louisville High School and has been accepted into the College Credit Plus academy at Ohio State/ATI in Wooster, where she will complete her senior year of high school. Landyn and her family live on a small family farm. At school, she is a member of the National Honor Society and the track team where she competes in the 300m hurdles and pole vault events. This will be her ninth year in 4-H showing both steers and market hogs. Landyn will be showing her steer “Boots”, in the Dean's Charity Steer Show. Rick Ricart is the President of Ricart Automotive Group, a third-generation dealership in Columbus, Ohio. Giving back to the community has been a cornerstone of the Ricart family businesses since its beginnings in 1953, focusing charitable efforts on three core pillars: family, veterans and education. Rick himself is passionate about serving the community and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees for Ronald McDonald House Charities. Previously, he served as the board chair for A Kid Again. Kate Siefert joined the ABC 6 and Fox 28 team in early 2022 as a reporter. Growing up on the east side of Cleveland, it's been a long-time goal for Kate to report and tell the stories most important to the people living in her home state of Ohio. Her first stop in the TV business was in Steubenville, OH, as a sports reporter for NEWS 9 and then became morning anchor. In 2019, Kate moved up to Kalamazoo, MI, where she produced and anchored WWMT's noon and 5:30 p.m. shows. Despite the brief move up north, she still didn't forget about her beloved Buckeyes.

Russell is headed to the eighth grade this fall at Tiffin Middle School. He is a member of the Builders Club, Student Council, Seneca County Jr. Beef 4-H Club, OCA BEST program, as well as the American Maine Anjou, Angus, Simmental, Chi and Shorthorn Associations. Russell is a 5th year 4-H exhibitor and his favorite projects are sheep and cattle. He will be showing his Simmental steer, “Mamba” in the Dean’s Charity Steer Show. Michelle Warnky Buurma is a 10-time Ninja Warrior competitor, motivational speaker, personal trainer, entrepreneur, MLab Ohio gym owner and Obstacle Course Racer. Michelle has been blessed with an incredible husband, Joel Buurma, and a beautiful baby, Grace, who was born 3 months premature and weighed 1 lb 14 oz! Michelle and her husband stayed at the Ronald McDonald house in Columbus for 2 months while their daughter was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) right after birth. Michelle loves God and people, and aims to live her life serving both with love! She runs competitions with a Bible verse written on her leg as a thank you to God for each chance to compete and be active! As an entrepreneur and leader, for the past 8 years Michelle founded and has co-owned the gym Movement Lab Ohio. Paige GehretGehret Family 2023 Dean's Charity Steer Show Event Details: Date: Tuesday, August 1, 2023 Time: 2:00 p.m. Location: Voinovich Livestock & Trade Center at the Ohio Expo Center & State Fair Celebrate Ohio agriculture, communities and children at the 2023 Dean’s Charity Steer Show. Teams will consist of a Team Captain, Team Champion, experienced 4-H youth and a steer in the show ring. The event will be hosted by Cathann A. Kress, vice president and dean of The Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). All proceeds will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio. The Steer Show is coordinated by CFAES, Ohio Cattlemen’s Association, Telhio Credit Union and the Ohio State Fair. Team Bios: Paige Gehret, the daughter of Gary and Jill Gehret, lives on a small farm in Yorkshire, Ohio in Darke County. She has two older siblings and will be a sophomore at Versailles High School this fall. Paige is active in student council, Hope Squad (suicide prevention), Spanish Club and a track athlete, as well as being the historian in FFA, participating in livestock judging and job interview career development events. Paige exhibits both beef and market sheep through FFA and 4-H at the county, state and national levels. She is currently the treasurer of the Darke County 4-H Beef Club and is a representative of the Darke County Jr. Fairboard for the beef department. When she is not working with her animals in the barn, she can be found working on her Supervised Agriculture Experience in FFA, a 1-acre pumpkin patch and store, “Paige’s Patch”, raising and selling pumpkins, gourds, popcorn and sweet corn that she retails in the summer and fall seasons. Paige will have her steer “Tanner” with her in the ring at the Dean’s Charity Steer Show. Cy Prettyman of New Bloomington was elected First Vice President of Ohio Farm Bureau Federation in April 2021. He has served as District 7 trustee for the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation since 2012, representing members from Crawford, Marion, Morrow and Richland counties. Prettyman farms with his family, raising corn, soybeans and has a direct-to-consumer beef enterprise. In addition, he has an over 30-year agricultural career serving members in Ohio’s cooperative system. He has a bachelor’s degree in animal sciences from The Ohio State University and has been active with local and state Pork Producers Councils and Ohio Cattlemen’s Association.

She is 18 years old, has two siblings, and is a recent graduate of Bloom-Carroll High School and a member of the Awesome Animals 4-H Club. She was actively involved in the Bloom-Carroll FFA, Student Ambassadors, Studio BC Production Team, National Honor Society and the music department. Delaney is currently serving as the 2023-2024 Ohio FFA Vice-President. This fall she plans to attend The Ohio State University majoring in Agricultural Communications. In the Dean’s Charity Steer Show, Delaney will be showing her market heifer, “Tree Trunks”. Dr. Melissa Shivers is the Senior Vice President for Student Life at The Ohio State University where she serves on the university’s senior administration team and provides leadership and strategic oversight on matters related to the student experience. She has broad leadership responsibility for numerous university operations affecting students outside the classroom. Tracy Townsend is a journalist who is a News Anchor on “Wake Up CBUS,” the morning newscast at WBNS-TV. She also reports as Medical Correspondent and hosts “Face the State,” a political affairs show on WBNS-TV.
